The individual states could immediately stop any possibility of food stamp riots by buying surplus crops from farmers, which benefits the farmers, then distributing the surplus to food stamp recipients.

If they really wanted to sweeten the deal, instead of using the federal cards, they could issue state cards, so no matter what happened to the federal system, food could still be distributed to the poor, uninterrupted by Washington’s petulance.

And the way to do this is through existing organizations that feed the poor. They already have the infrastructure and the personnel to distribute the food as needed.

All told, it would cost the states far less than the federal program, and though it wouldn’t provide the food diversity of using retail grocery stores, it would still forestall a sudden, huge number of hungry and dangerous people.

Did you see the recent thread about Soros’ JPMorgan getting their cut on every EBT transaction?

For 8 calibers, WAY, WAY more than enough stockpiled since 2001. My local FFLs are jealous. Enough said.

All you will have to eat will be what is on your shelf NOW.

And what is in the garden, and what is running around in the woods (feral hogs are a problem here). I'll do ok.

That’s ok, Walmart will just pass along the cost of stolen merchandise to it’s paying customers.

To: technically right
I would have only one checkout lane that would handle the EBT cards

They have no shame and would consider it their extra special honor checkout lane.

Actually, the taxpayer money goes to Fedgov who doles it out to the States (minus the fedgov cut) and the states manage the program and issue the cards.

That's what I had for breakfast this morning. Cured and smoked feral pork with home-grown eggs and potatoes.

I'm thawing a venison roast for supper.

I can't afford store bought meat.

I’ll take a piece of that $5k mini-gun action, too. Tax Stamps are the easy part; I have several Class III firearms.

The biggest problems will be in predominantly black communities, before they start spreading out. When the stores are looted, they will invade restaurants, homes and neighborhoods. The hatred for whites, orientals and Hispanics will explode worse than it is now.

When you don’t have a job government benefits go a long way, especially if you have subsidized housing, and a host of other benefits. The total of the benefits can be more than you get in a real job.

If you have a real job, your salary is not yours. Every level of government has its hands in it. You don’t get to keep it all.

So $20,000 of government benefits is real money. a job paying $20,000 is nothing.

There are two ways it can happen, depending on who is in the White House:

1) Immediate, sudden cutoff, resulting in widespread unrest (if that is what is desired).

2) Gradual draw-down, as prerequisites are tightened, better fraud-control is instituted to detect those who are collecting food-stamp money that shouldn't, and gradual reduction in benefit level.

I believe Walmart has to take the lead and stop taking food stamps.

It's a fascist state. It would be easier separating Siamese twins than Walmart and Fedgov.

Food prices are probably worsened by SNAP. There’s no pressure to watch every dollar until the benefits are about to run out. So the first weekend of the month, I see people with loads of steak and pre-prepared foods paying with EBT cards. Toward the end of the month, they are at our church’s food bank begging for Spam. And they don’t correlate the high initial purchases with lack of food later, but the more costly purchases drive up food prices for everyone else because they cannot actually afford those foods.
