UK Visits US Gun Passion
Jan Morgan Media ^ | 10/31/13 | Jan Morgan

Not long ago, I was approached by a man and woman from the UK who wanted some training and the chance to shoot guns. They were in the United States on vacation and one of the items on their vacation list was to find a certified instructor and have the once in a lifetime chance to “experience what it’s like to be American for a few hours with the legal right to shoot rifles and guns.”

They told me that in the UK, they could not own guns and they really did not understand this “passion” Americans had for firearms and shooting since, (in their words) “guns are dangerous tools of violence and kill people.”

Wow… Those of you who know me, know how well that statement went over. :) I quickly corrected them by telling them that actually, “Guns save lives.” In fact, 2.5 million times last year, law abiding citizens in this country used guns in self defense situations and saved lives… and… that 90 million gun owners in America with over 300 million guns, killed no one last year.. I stressed that gun ownership by law abiding citizens actually decreases crime and mentioned that a study published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy discovered that nations that have more guns tend to have less crime.

I rounded out that little lesson by putting a loaded gun on the range counter in front of them and explained to them that this gun can’t DO ANYTHING WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF a human being

-snip- one of them made the comment that “as wonderful as it is that Americans have the right to own guns, this sort of liberty would not work in the UK and it’s best that people in their country remain unarmed.”

Gloria Bunker Stivic: Do you know that sixty percent of all deaths in America are caused by guns?

Archie Bunker: Would it make you feel any better, little girl, if they was pushed out of windows?

Unbelievable. Those people have had the very concept of liberty bred right out of them. No wonder they're losing their country to the Islamic Caliphate.

My Brit ancestors must be rolling in their graves.

“guns are dangerous tools of violence and kill people.”

Especially Redcoats...

The truth is that more people are killed with hammers / knives / blunt objects than with rifles yet they want to ban rifles & guns in general.

Talk about being unable to unlearn. While in the USA, did they have to duck every five seconds out of fear of all these guns being shot off indiscriminately by insane wielders? No. The whole time, their chances of injury or death from striking a white-tailed deer with their car were nearly infinitely higher.

This from the same people who are letting the Muslims overrun their country and they do nothing to fight back for fear of offending them. The Brits deserve every bit of the problems they foist upon themselves for being so stupid. Someday soon, in the not so distant future, they will rue the day they don’t have guns to defend themselves from this invading horde.

The second amendment was created for people to rise up against a tyrannical government. ( or radical Muslim terrorists ?)

Which is what probably inspired this quote: "-snip- one of them made the comment that “as wonderful as it is that Americans have the right to own guns, this sort of liberty would not work in the UK and it’s best that people in their country remain unarmed.”"

Brits are used to being subjects. It’s in their blood.

These people are wrong. I am a Brit and I shoot every week at my local gun range, and once I have been a member for six months I can apply for a certificate to own my own. They simply haven’t bothered to explore the idea of shooting in Britain.

If I invite you to my house for a barbecue and you shoot off your gun or your mouth, you might get banned too. Not ironic at all.

Top o’ the mornin’ lad!

We Yanks should be hearing from `thescotsman’ presently; he maintains that Britons can own guns (with restrictions) but most choose not to because the common culture in UK doesn’t look kindly either on gun ownership in the realm, or on those dangerous gunwielding cowboys in America.

I was hoping the author had changed this couple’s mind with a trip to the firing range. Apparently not.

What they need to do is to take a walk down a dark street of a bad area at 2AM.....that would let the Brits feel the 2A instead of merely being a theoretical right.

I don't know, does this final part from the article seem like failure?
Once again…. silence… deep thought…
then…. it was.. “Honey, what do you think about moving to the U.S.?”

LOL, everybody has trolls! Look in the comments for “Horseluck Mac” and its attempt to refute the statistics given in the article.

Idiot makes the case that gun crimes are more in the US than UK and so ...

Responses that if the citizens do not / cannot have guns then that stat(s) is meaningless are right on! Marching Moron indeed!

The average Briton is famously clueless about this topic. It is not reported to them that the overwhelming majority of "gun crime" in the US is associated with urban gangs and drug trafficking, and that most non-urban US communities are approximately as safe as most Scandinavian communities.

My wife used to have a British pen pal. It was back in the late '80s. In one letter, her pen pal made the statement "I would love to come visit you in the US but it is just too violent. How do you survive with all the gun crime in your neighborhood?" At the time she lived in a rural community that hadn't seen a shooting in a dozen years.

If they choose to emigrate to the U.S., fine & welcome as long as they don’t bring their socialist ways with them.

We’ve seen what liberal outmigration has done to states like Vermont & Texas. They flee liberal rule while insisting it CAN work under the right conditions.

I think that innate socialists would not take time to visit a gun store & range as part of a vacation. Socialist would rather spend time looking at their monuments, like Obama's birthplace and schools and churches and ...

No sarcasm was hurt in composing this message!
