With government intervention now becoming the only viable solution being touted for everything from individual health care and the economy to our personal safety and how we educate our children, it would only make sense that officials in Washington also figure out a way to use their power of confiscation and redistribution to equalize the income playing field.
It’s no secret that 48 million Americans require nutritional assistance just to put food on the table, or that over 100 million of us are living in or at the very edge of poverty, or that nearly one in three of us is currently without any meaningful labor.
This is a major problem, and if we stay on our current trajectory those numbers are going to continue to rise. The American people are broke, and so are the businesses that employ them, which means that we’ll continue to shed jobs, decrease wages and further impoverish an already dwindling middle class.
Enter the idea of a Universal Basic Income, to be distributed by the Federal government on a monthly basis to every adult in America.

The feral government has been doing so well with all its projects, it’s little or no wonder people have been thinking up new projects for it to undertake.
The libs are on a roll now. Having moved many paces to the left under the Pretender, they have sensed that the Free Stuff faction is in the ascendancy and will not be denied. Moreover, they want more and more Free Stuff and will savage anyone who tries to take it away from them.
That solves everything. Why haven’t we thought of this before now? As soon as they do this I can quit my job and let other’s work to support me. I’ve been on the supporting end of this equation for all of my adult life. It is time I change sides. There is a limitless supply of people to tax. Why should I be one of them?

I have this theory that at some point, it’s possible for someone to continue their education past their ability to understand.
Once that point is crossed, it’s possible for these people to come up with all sorts of hair brained schemes, which if rationally analyzed, would be deemed so stupid, you’d think that they were joking.
These people thrive in academia, and in government bureaucracies. It’s because there’s no need to actually produce or prove ones’ worth to the organization.

Canadian Test Shows Income Guarantees Don’t Work

A follow-up on this morning’s post on guaranteed incomes: I’m reminded that Jim Manzi wrote two excellent pieces outlining the data we have on experiments with a guaranteed income. Here’s his summary of a Canadian experiment that topped off the incomes of folks who worked so that they retained more of their benefits and income than they otherwise would have: People respond to incentives. During the period of the reduced marginal tax rate, reported work earnings and reported income rose for the test group versus the control during the experimental period. Score one for the supply-siders (and common sense).

As someone already said on an earlier threat whatever that level is, will be effectively zero. They will find themselves having to increase it all the time.
Any conservative politician promising not to increase it or to abolish it will be demonized and have no chance at election.
Until, of course, the Great Fall comes.
