The Chinese should remember that the Japanese traditionally prefer to get in the first punch. It hasn’t always worked out for them in the end but historically speaking they don’t wait for their opponent, whether it was Russia in 1906, China in 1937, or America and Britain in 1941, to make the first blow.
Thus part of the problem. China has a long memory. Survivors in China remember the Japanese raping and looting their country.
