Beretta doesnt bluff: Moving production to Tennessee
Beretta told Marylands state legislature that passage of anti-gun bills early last year would force the company to re-think their plans for growth and expansion in Governor Martin OMalleys state. Berettas dont bluff, the Old Line State lawmakers were told.
The legislature passed a whole new raft of gun restrictions anyway.
Well, not only did Beretta cancel plans for growth and expansion in anti-gun Maryland, they announced their intention to move the whole kit and caboodle to Tennessee later this year.
(The Tennesseean) Beretta, one of the worlds leading gun manufacturers, will be moving manufacturing operations to Gallatin, bringing more than 300 jobs to the region.
The company will invest upwards of $45 million to bring a manufacturing and research and development facility to Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam announced Wednesday morning.
The company is expected to complete construction on the facility this year and will make firearms at the new Gallatin plant for both their sporting and tactical product lines.
While Gallatin has added 350 jobs in the past year through expansion of existing employers, such as The Gap and ABC Fuels Group, this represents a major new corporate player in Gallatin, officials said.
Berettas move follows Magpuls decision to bail on Colorado, taking their manufacturing jobs to Wyoming and their corporate headquarters to Texas.
A number of smaller companies have made similar moves since early 2013.
Illinois legislators would be wise to consider the implications of passing further strict gun controls, including gun and magazine bans, lest precious, good-paying jobs flee the Prairie State for greener pastures and prairies.
Watch zer0 give the military contract to someone else...
Welcome to Tennessee!
Bye bye Beretta... please TAKE US with you!
I love their pistols. Have a 21A, 3032, 84FS, 85FS, 87 with threaded barrel and silencer (with stamp), 92FS Centurion, 92FS, and a M9A1...(have a CX-4 but that’s a carbine.
I’m glad they are telling MD to stick it.
I think more referenda to amend constitutions to abolish STATE income taxes need to happen.
Those that pass such income protection will become more attractive to business.
“Interestingly enough, Bob Adelmann at The New American believes that this is more about O’Malley’s political future than gun control and he makes some good observations. Adelmann writes:”
Whats really happening in Maryland has little to do with controlling crime but possibly everything to do with OMalley. The Baltimore Sun exulted that the bill passed by the senate contained the licensing provision which is the centerpiece of the governors bill and the one they believe would be most effective in reducing gun violence. Instead, it looks as if passage will be most effective in promoting OMalleys run for the presidency in 2016.
The governor got involved in left-wing causes while still in college, working with Gary Harts presidential campaign for president in 1984. From there he worked as state field director of then-congresswoman Barbara Mikulski (now Marylands senior senator), and then took a position in her office as a legislative fellow. In 2004, OMalley spoke at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in support of John Kerrys campaign for president against President George W. Bush. In August 2005, New York Mayor Michael Bloombergs Business Week magazine touted OMalley as one of the new stars in the Democrat Party galaxy, along with then-Senator Ken Salazar, then-Senator Barack Obama, and then-Representative Rahm Emanuel. The only one not eventually involved intimately in the Obama administration was Martin OMalley.
OMalley is term-limited in 2014, which gives him a full two years to explore a presidential run in 2016. Passage of this signature piece of legislation, supported by nothing more than rhetoric, will add to his perceived credibility among those on the Left. OMalley has often referred to his success in reducing crime while he was mayor of Baltimore from 1999 to 2007, claiming that under his administration crime dropped by nearly 40 percent. The fact that he could never prove where that statistic came from, nor could anyone else, doesn’t matter.

We like their pistols too.The wife recently bought a PX4 in .45ACP for her new carry weapon.I hate to admit it,but it’s superior to a 1911 in a lot of ways.
If N DAK (f'rinstance) disapproved the Keystone, but S DAK approved ... I'd put a ton of people to work and build that section of the pipeline
Drillers should be setting up in ANWAR
If we really think about it ... the government has power against an individual .. only.
They can do nothing (short of declaring open warfare) on a determined group or organization.
They can surround a lone Randy Weaver or an unarmed Wounded Knee, but they can do nothing against a determined, CONSTITUTIONAL force.
I think they make excellent pistols. I’m debating on moving to the new line of PX series.
However, I also have an equal to or more collection of 1911s, from the first model to the latest. I consider that gun line the best.
There’s just something about it. Steel, simplicity and caliber...and the feel (at least for me).
Criminal is what those legislators are.
I applaud Beretta and I’m glad they’re telling MD to stick it also. Actions carry consequences. I’ve got the M9 also, and while I’m no pistol expert, I am happy with it.
don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time....
I like the under rail. All the 92/96s have a great hand feel, too.
You forgot about Waco.
Wholesale murder of US citizens by a DemoncRAT President and the media just yawned.
nice gun....
.....but the USGI needs one in .45ACP (or at least .40S%W or .357 sig...)
I am old in my ways....I love my 1911A1s, but do like the quality of Berettas.
I love my Beretta 380,compact,light and works great.
What I did NOT see in the statement was anything about HALTING ALL SALES to Maryland.??
