WHY would the Lord be angry with King David for taking a census? And yet we know that, as soon as he did, David regretted having numbered the people:
I have sinned greatly in doing this thing.

This is absolutely fascinating.
From what I’ve been told, it’s not the census itself that was a sin but David’s reason for taking it. Satan apparently inspired him to do it out of pride and ambition for personal power, thinking they were his people instead of God’s people.
HE knows you by name...not number.
Great post. Thank you.
Perhaps it was his lack of vision that only 1 person exist,
I had never looked at it that way before - great pick up!
Today’s youth should be very careful. Not only are they numbered. Every comment they text, say on the phone, computer, or ipad is being recorded and stored. Ten years from now everything can be held against them.
Not to multiply wives that his heart be not turned away to other gods, not to multiply gold that his heart be not turned to greed, not to multiply horses that his heart be not turned to war.

I always read the whole story in context but what is amazing to me, and I may have heard the relationship long ago and forgot, is that in repentance and accepting God’s judgment for the numbering, David saw the angel of the Lord and where he stopped and David bought the place to offer as a sacrifice is where the Temple was built. The Temple was on the side of a hill. On the top of the hill is where Abraham offered Isaac. The hill was known as Golgotha in Jesus’ day.
And actions have consequences. Always
