League of Women Voters/Spokane Area candidate forum

LWVSA Candidate Forum for Legislative Races appearing on the Primary Ballot Wednesday, June 18, 2014,

Moderator: Martha Lou Wheatly-Billeter, LWVSA 5:00 PM US Congressional Representative, 5th District (Tom Horne, Republican; Joseph (Joe) Pakootas, Democrat; Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Republican; Dave Wilson, Independent) 5:30 PM

Legislative District 3, State Representative, Position 1 (Tim Benn, Independent R; Randy McGlenn, Libertarian; Marcus Riccelli, Democrat)

Legislative District 3, State Representative, Position 2 (Timm Ormsby, Democrat; Candidate Paul Delaney, Libertarian, will not be attending as he is out of town.)

He is more conservative on immigration but I dont know who is worse on Obamacare. He’s not in leadership so it doesn’t make much difference. Id compare him to Pete Wilson or Scott Brown who I’d vote for against Cathy.

“I was disappointed and a little embarrassed by Cathy’s “Miss Congeniality” reply to President Obama’s State of The Union Address. When politicians speak I often have the reaction “ How stupid does he think we are?” Cathy’s statement below, about pursuing an immigration bill this summer brought that reaction, and this campaign to unseat her is the result.

If they get to stay in this country it is amnesty. How stupid do they think we are? The normal politician’s reply is: “Oh, but they are going to have to pay a fine, and back taxes, and learn English. “ They won’t be paying the fines, nor learning English. They will be allowed to duck both requirements in years to come, claiming discrimination, we all know that. And they will be voting. They are already voting in places with lax registration requirements and counties with highly partisan election officials, California. Talk to a couple of your friends that immigrated from California. Ask them if illegals are voting down there. Chances are they will tell you stories of illegals being bussed to polling places. I have heard these anecdotes for years and I am certain that there is some truth to them.

Cathy McMorris-Rodgers wont lose but it would be interesting to see him at least progress to November and have that option if the leadership does something stupid.
