Hard to believe I turned out as well as I did on liverwurst sandwiches, pickles and Twinkies in my lunchbox.

*SWOON* To this DAY - crack open a package of Braunschweiger with a side of Gherkins and I will follow you into battle...and we will WIN! :)

The Twinkie? I traded that for ammo and smokes...

Why are schools involved in lunch?

Every day I had the same lunch: PBJ on wheat bread with a side of Fritos followed by a chocolate chip cookie. My thermos of milk finished the course.

I just turned 65 and am healthy.

While we ate breakfast, my Mom stood at the kitchen counter and packed us a home-made lunch containing a) one sandwich of whole wheat bread, bologna, cheese, lettuce or peanut butter b) one apple c)and one home made oatmeal cookie. Also a thermos of milk. All in a lunch pail or paper bag.
Thank you, Mom.

Lucky you - I was stuck with a bologna sandwich (tuna on Friday) and a glass of milk - and I went home for lunch every day until high school.

Jax prefers ham and cheese or tuna salad, but also will do ham or chicken salad, sandwiches. There is always fruit, orange, apple, grapes, whatever we've got and she loves having hummus and celery. We also make baked tortilla chips and vary the seasonings. She really does love the one-upping of the packed lunches of the other kids!!!!
