I have 9 kids, and I’ve bought 3 things so far, from Amazon. We just don’t have any extra this year. Sad but true. There was a time when I would go for Black Friday sales. They kept moving the sales earlier, and I don’t care to shop on Thanksgiving. So they’ve lost me. It’s gonna be a small Christmas this year. I’d rather do a cool, meaningful service project with the kids.

Nothing wrong with a "small Christmas." A few family get togethers, dinners, and a few small gifts is good enough for me. That puts a smile on my face. I got my daughters, and granddaughter a few things. Something for my wife and that's good enough. I told my kids I have enough and don't need anything else. The TV Christmas commercials are downright embarrassing.

I think for many people, getting up at 5 am on Black Friday was a tradition. Now there will be little point to go shopping on BF if all the door buster deals have already gone to those who don’t observe Thanksgiving.

Don't sell yourself short. One well thought out gift for everyone doesn't have to be expensive. That's not what makes it wonderful. It's that sharing and quality family time that makes it special. Perhaps add a special task for each person to share in planning a perfect holiday.

It's not how much stuff, but how much love and caring that matters.

Actually a cool meaningful Christmas sounds a lot better than spending a lot of money. The family might enjoy it more too.

That is better for everyone anyway, even in good times.

Our family completely stopped exchanging gifts last year. Worked out great. We don’t by ANYTHING during the Christmas season beyond what we would normally buy other than a ham and eggnog.
