I’m getting really tired of the phrase “losing a child” when a child dies. As if you weren’t paying attention, they just wandered off and now it’s just a matter of finding them again.
In another lifetime, my wife had a daughter that was just a little over a year old that died in her crib when she swallowed some hair from her teddy bear and choked on it. The baby was with her father while she was at work. I can assure you many decades later she didn’t “lose” the child. Every year around the time of her death my wife gets very emotional and tries to hide her tears but I know why she’s crying. It was her first born. She still wonders who she would have become, what she would have looked like, how she will appear to her in heaven , etc...You never get over it.

No sir, indeed you do not. I have a 4 year old that was killed several years ago, and the grief today is still as near as it was then.
I am so sorry.
And if you are the father who couldn’t stop the abortion of your child by the mother you never get over it. Especially if you never have another chance to have a child. You spend your life wondering what if. Boy or girl, what would the child have looked like, what would they have done with their life. You find yourself looking at 20 something’s and thinking your child would might have looked like that. And it doesn’t stop with the child you ‘lost’, it extends into the next generation. While your family members and friends are enjoying their grandchildren you quietly sit and again wonder what if. You never feel like you have enjoyed a full life. Because nothing takes the place of being a parent and raising a child.
