imagine....no college scholarships for them...no preferential treatment in hiring...no special grants...no nothing...and now apparently, the law won't even protect them....
I guess I can understand their reticence to do anything about it....they'll be persecuted/prosecuted if they do.....

This is what the Jim Crow Laws were designed to prevent. Not to say the brutal, unjust, Jim Crow laws were constitutional or were justified. But this story gives some insight into the fears of the white minority in many deep south counties that brought them into being.
