The ironies of oil
Jewish World Review ^ | Jan. 2, 2015 | Victor Hanson

In the vice presidential debates of 2008, Joe Biden mocked Sarah Palin for the supposedly mindless campaign mantra of "Drill, baby, drill." Biden intoned that, "It will take 10 years for one drop of oil to come out of any of the wells that are going to be drilled."

The energy secretary-designate, the professorial Steven Chu, in 2008 had unwisely voiced a widely held but wisely unspoken progressive belief that, "Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe" -- or about $9 a gallon.

I read a column last week by some black guy in our Gannett generipaper that said

Republicans talked a lot about “drill baby drill” but Barack Obama was the one who made it happen.

Sadly a significant percentage of voters will believe that.

Nice article, but I find it hard to believe that with prices only trending low for 3 months that “Industry is coming back to the U.S”.

That's the same stupid non-argument illogic Daschle used 20 years ago. By the time Zero and Plugs are out, the pipeline would have been two years away from completion -- and that's giving the lying plagiarizing sack of crap the benefit of the doubt.

He wrote similar articles on the same subject in IBD and National Review.

This guy is a GENIUS --I love him.

Poor fellow lost his darling daughter about 3 weeks ago: :(

He's a frequent cyclist and often writes about the detritus that turns up more and more on his Fresno (Calif) paths.

He's cerebral, but can be quite a riot with his amazing descriptions and insight.

The real irony is that the success of all those who have regenerated our economy and energy security, absolutely despite Obama's best efforts to deny them, will wind up being used by the left to convince half of more of the populace that "progressive policies" have turned the country around after Republicans drove us into fiscal and diplomatic ruin.

The other irony, and every bit as demoralizing, is that the GOP appears well on it's way to even bigger disaster than the last presidential fiasco. What a great field they are pushing on us; Senor Jeb, Huckster, and that nice Mormon gentleman.

Fracking Debunks Obama’s ‘We Can’t Drill Our Way Out’
http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/120314-728986-fracking-proves-we-can-drill-our-way-to-low-prices-and-independence.htm

Back in 2006, for example, then-Sen. Obama said expanded drilling in the Gulf of Mexico would only “lull the American people into thinking that we can drill our way out of our energy problems.”

When he ran for president in 2008 while gas prices spiked, he mocked John McCain’s call for more drilling. “This is one emergency we can’t drill our way out of,” he said.

After the BP oil spill in 2010, Obama explained that “the reason you never heard me say ‘Drill, baby, drill’ (is) because we can’t drill our way out of the problem.” He went on to claim that “easily accessible oil has already been sucked up out of the ground.”

In 2011, while pushing to end oil industry tax breaks, Obama claimed: “If we’re serious about addressing our energy problems, we’re going to have to do more than drill.”

In 2012, when running for re-election, the president declared: “Even if we drilled every square inch of this country right now, we’re going to be relying on other countries for oil.”

And when he unveiled his “all of the above” energy strategy, Obama lectured the country about how “there’s a problem with a strategy that only relies on drilling, and that is America uses more than 20% of the world’s oil. If we drilled every square inch of this country ... we’d still have only 2% of the world’s known oil reserves.” He added: “We’ve got a math problem here.”

Turns out, it’s Obama who has the math problem.

It also turns out Obama likes to imply he is responsible for increased production.
