Sarah Palin Should Not Run For President
Leo McNeil ^ | January 30, 2015 | Leo McNeil

Sarah Palin made headlines last weekend when she said she was interested in running for President. Palin has been an important part of the Tea Party and conservative movements in this country since she came onto the scene in 2008. Nobody on the right throws red meat to a crowd quite like Palin. Her ability to sarcastically tear down liberal sacred cows is second only to Rush Limbaugh. Best of all she drives liberals up a wall. They hate her more than any other conservative in this country, including George W. Bush and Limbaugh. Watching liberals fall to pieces over Palin is always amusing. Palin has also been an important player in the Tea Party political scene. The candidates she campaigned for, particularly in 2014, generally won. She has an excellent track record in that regard.

The question is whether Palin should run for President and perhaps as importantly whether conservatives should support her candidacy. The answer is clear, she should not run and if she does conservatives should not support her. There are any number of reasons why Palin shouldn’t be the Republican nominee beginning with the fact that her experience is limited and at this point remote. Palin was Governor of Alaska for all of two and a half years. She resigned ostensibly to make money in personal appearances. If Palin was serious about running for President, she should have stayed in office and run for re-election. In the alternative, she should have run for a winnable Alaska Senate seat in 2014. Instead, Palin has shown a lack of interest in actual governing. We need to nominate someone with experience and if we look at the slate of candidates out there we can clearly see there are other conservatives who have a lot more experience than Palin. Surely the GOP can find someone with more experience than Obama had in 2008, we can’t set the bar down to his level.

Palin’s ability to attract people other than conservatives is near zero. Fair or not, Palin is a polarizing figure in American politics. On one hand she’s brought it on herself by tearing down liberal sacred cows. On the other hand, the left-wing media has relentlessly attacked her for no other reason than she’s a heretic to the feminist cause. Let’s be honest, Palin has egged the left-wing media on and it’s been amusing to watch her set them up and tear them down. Doing that makes for great giggles for Tea Partiers but it does nothing for Palin’s likability. Because of the media, people actually think Palin said she can see Russia from her house. The media has pushed that narrative, knowing full well that Tina Fey said that on a Saturday Night Live sketch. People other than conservatives think Palin is a crass moron. That is a hurdle she won’t be able to overcome if she runs for President.

Sarah Palin has a place in conservative movement of the Republican Party. She’s an important part of the Tea Party. There’s a difference between being the flame thrower for conservatives and running for President. Palin is great at what she’s doing right now. She’s made a good living for herself and her family by giving speeches and making media appearances. She’s done a terrific job campaigning for conservatives in House and Senate elections. She’s found her calling in politics, it makes no sense for her to give it up to run for President. Conservatives shouldn’t want her to give it up either. Her record was magnificent in 2014. We’re much better off having her back conservative candidates for Congress than we are watching her flame out in a GOP Presidential primary that’s likely to be crowded with too many conservative candidates. If she wants to get involved in the primary, she should act as kingmaker and endorse someone. For her to run though will result in her ultimate defeat, which will likely limit her opportunities to influence politics in the future.

We conservatives need to find someone who has more than the right views. We need to find someone who has experience and can translate that experience to the White House. That person isn’t Sarah Palin. Two and a half years as Governor of a small state isn’t good enough. Eight years as Mayor of a town of less than 8,000 is not good enough experience. Palin is great at what she’s doing now, conservatives should be happy that she’s found something she’s both successful and influential at. The Democrats set the bar low for experience when they nominated Obama. The Republicans need to raise that bar. Scott Walker is just as conservative as Palin and he has a lot more experience. He’s balanced budgets and taken on unions in a blue state no less. Ted Cruz has more experience than Palin between his time as solicitor general in Texas and the US Senate. We need someone who is more skilled than Obama is. We have candidates like that on the right in the GOP. Sarah Palin just isn’t one of them.

Then you’re going to claim that it’s a lie to cite exactly what Palin did, which is resign as Governor to go make money as a speaker and pundit.

You were already given facts about this and you chose to ignore them. You keep pushing the left's narrative at your own peril.

I’m hardly doing the Democrats work for them. If Palin is the nominee, I’ll vote for her. I can’t say that about half of the other candidates running for the GOP nomination. Having said that, Palin can’t beat Hillary. Scott Walker can. Ted Cruz can. Palin’s baggage and lack of experience hurt her more than you guys are willing to acknowledge. The truth is that unlike Scott Walker, Sarah Palin hasn’t managed to figure out how to defeat the onslaught of the leftist media while in office. She gave up and quit. Yes, she’s fun to watch making fun of the media today but when they were really after her in 2008 and 2009 she didn’t do that well. Walker on the other hand destroyed the left, winning a recall election and re-election. There’s something to be said for his successes and it’s worth comparing them to Palin’s failures.

Each person has a unique set of talents. I really believe Palin is at her best doing what she’s been doing for the last few years. She’s great at picking candidates to support, raising money and campaigning for them. She’s great at delivering red meat to conservative audiences. She’s not as good dealing with a full media onslaught or winning moderates over to her cause.

Is it really such heresy on FR to suggest that a conservative stick to what they’re good at?

"Why does Sarah Palin have to run if Hillary runs?"

Don't expect this to be a rational, logical argument.

More than half of today's voters are women.

I believe a majority of those women will be inclined to cast their vote for a woman.

But what kind of woman?

Sarah can be like their Sister. Hillary can't

The best Hillary can do is emulate their stodgy Mother. I'm betting that half of the women voters would prefer supporting their Sister over their Mother.

And that cancels Hillary's "woman advantage."

You're not too bright, are ya. The law in Alaska was different then the laws of Wisconsin. In Alaska anyone can file an ethics complaint against the Governor and they did. Hundreds of them. It cost the Dem operatives nothing. It cost the state of Alaska millions and the Palins had to pay their own legal fees. Scott Walker has NOT had to deal with the same.

You're an idiot.

A majority of women are going to vote for the Democrat whether it’s Hillary or not. I think Obama pulled 57% of women. Hillary will probably be in the 53-56% range when you factor in Obama and Democrat fatigue. Sarah Palin isn’t going to make that much of a dent in the Democrats dominance among women.

Of course, we’re assuming Hillary is going to run. I’m not sure that’s the case. Bubba’s visits to the sex slave island could derail Hillary before she even starts her formal campaign.

You didn't call out speaking fees, you said "seduced easily by money." For Palin, that includes speaking fees (and bendy straws) as well as TV shows. For Clinton, it's also speaking fees and books. Is that seduction (I presume you meant it as a character flaw) or earning a living? You can't condemn one without condemning the rest.

I mention Teddy as a parallel. I don't mean to infer that Palin ends up ushering in new era of progressivism; I simply point out a similar path to the White House.

I firmly belive the DEM ticket will be HilLIARy/Elizabeth Warren

That will be tough to beat because so many women will vote for that ticket JUST BECAUSE it is two women

No ALL MALE ticket on the GOP side would defeat it.

It will HAVE TO BE Palin/Cruz (maybe even as independent)

"Your Argument is Invalid. " No, it's not.

Ah Ha!

You See?

This is why people will get confused without the pic.

eCSMaster, I had posted a Pic of Ubama with the caption "Your Argument is invalid" meaning the Arguments AGAINST Sarah was invalid.

But not that you would have known that because even though I previewed the pic and posted it and it was there, when I refreshed the page the next time it was gone and it caused all this confusion ARGH! >:(

You need to do a little research before you post. You obviously don’t know the circumstances behind her resignation. It should be a clue to you just how much the Left fears her, but instead you have bought the shallow establishment meme. Sad really.

Make no mistake though, she chose money over power.

Noboby chooses money over power; money's the means, power is the end.
Sarah Palin made a difficult but shrewd decision to live to fight another day; resigning from office was a necessary sacrifice.

I like Walker, Cruz too. And would hold my nose a bit for Paul and Rubio. Hell, I might even vote for Romney or Bush if Hillary is their opponent.. Not sure though. But winning unfortunately involves getting people to the polls, and if the Dems march to 2016 with a woman on the ticket it will be hard to avoid the “first woman president” mantra that will likely seduce millions of females. It’s just a fact. So.. Palin/Cruz, Palin/Walker, Palin/Paul... etc., seems like a winner to me.
