No amount of false bravado, professorial sounding outrage or political denials can erase the truth about Common Core
Dr. William J. (Bill) Bennett, former Secretary of Education under President Ronald Reagan from 1986 to 1988, advocates for Common Core in a CNN op-ed published on Dec. 2, 2014, and as recently as Feb. 1, 2015, in a televised debate with Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
In his CNN op-ed, Dr. Bennett concludes that because America offers no better alternative, we should accept Common Core. His argument dovetails closely with establishment Republican and Democrat ideology; one imbedded with flawed logic, compounded falsehoods and unconstitutional rationalizations. I sincerely respect Dr. Bennetts mind, heart, character and distinguished career. But on this critical issue, the conclusions he draws are dangerously and stubbornly, wrong-headed.

Wrong, Bill.
I listened to this dinosaur for nigh on a year. He’s a coffee-klatching dilettante who can’t tell me a damned thing.
He can go suck and egg.
Centralization is the problem.
Decentralization is the solution.
Common Core is centralized.
This is a very normal conservative concept.
Bill Bennett must just like centralization because he and his pointy headed ilk will be in charge.
Well, Bill, "Bell" is not the word I would have chosen to finish that phrase.
Give him some Commie Core math problems to solve on his radio show. Ask him to show his work.
He was doubling down on stupid today saying that the naysayers are concerned about this or that person who’s involved but still felt confident about the program in the whole...
Give him some reading exercises as well.
There is an agenda at work and the coursework indoctrinates the young students in Leftist ideology.
“Barack Hussein Obama, Mmmm, Mmmm Mmmm!”
Common Core = Big Brother Socialist control.
Bill doesn’t see the obvious answer which is local control, not central control. It took someone really long on stupid to come up with that “common crap” stuff for school systems. Guess their idea was to consolidate the stupidity.
I have a better alternative: Immediately eliminate the federal department of education. Terminate the federal employment of every single person who currently works for the DOE and then ban ALL of them from EVER being employed by ANY educational system in the United States, or from ever holding another federal job of any kind, ever.
Non one bothers to mention that Common Core is the third major federal education fix since 1992.
GHWB and the young governor of Arkansas worked together to bring us Goals 2000, a grandiose scheme that was to vault US kids to number in math and science in the world by the year 2000, and also wipe out adult literacy. - Google Goals 2000 if interested. Pretty grandiose stuff and a complete failure by the feds.
And then we had W and No Child Left Behind, another major federal education fix.
And now we have Common Core, along with a third Bush to help push it, as well as old Beltway hands like Bill Bennett,
I’m sure there have been other major federal education fixes, but what we should have learned is that the feds cannot fix education, no matter what scheme is tried or who is involved.
I think Bennett is just covering for and shilling for Jeb Bush with his silly support of CC.
Used to catch him on Sirius radio too.
Lousy fat wheezing big government gambling junkie.
“I been around gubmit-—puff puff-—for forty years now so you ought to listen to me an’ the other geniuses. Snort.”
Show up two or three days a week for his show then head to Vegas for four or five. I wouldn’t let him teach my kid to tie a shoe, if he can even reach his anymore.
The Bookie of Virtues.
Secretary of E.D.
“America offers no better alternative. “

Yes it does — the way I and most others if my generation did. I went to school, the teachers taught, I learned. Then I went home and did homework under my parents’ supervision and studied for tests.
The old way worked for me. The problem is that nowadays teachers don’t want to teach, parents don’t care whether their children learn anything, so the children don’t learn or care to. Changing teaching methods won’t help a child learn if he isn’t encouraged or compelled to do so.

I heard him make this argument on Fox news. He supports the goals which are ok but completely ignores how it’s being implemented. Everyone signed on to the goals at first but then backed out when they saw the idiocy that was being foisted on them. Bennett believes that the goals are all “Common Core” is and nothing more.
How much money is he making from Common Core?
Exposes the dangers of common core--if you or anyone you know is undecided. Has testimony from people who were ON THE COMMITTEE that built common core.
