New Republic tries bleating: “Please don’t throw them in the briar patch” to save unions

The New Republic (NR) is trying a new approach to saving the Democrats’ ATM machine unions. NR is offering the novel argument that since the Republicans have been so successful in chopping away at the power of unions they should now stop their attacks because the weakened unions are finally not worth the effort to attack. This position sounds more than a little “please don’t throw me in the briar patch-ish.”

Unions have not generally been a good thing for America’s workers for a very long time. They have been the Democrats’ “bagman” – collecting and sharing dues money from helpless workers for decades. Unions have evolved into an important cog in the Democrats’ scheme to get and hold power while governing against the will of the people.

The scheme follows this broad scenario: The unions rip dues money away from their dwindling number of members; they give a portion of that money to Democrats who pass laws protecting them but keep most of it for themselves. That argument doesn’t work for the various government unions—SEIU and the teachers. They are practically Dem party apparatchiks.
