The second most misquoted scripture is "He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword". The actually scripture has been my tagline for years.
To say money is the ‘root of all evil’ is not the actual quote from the Bible. It actually reads ‘For the love of money is the root for all kinds of evil.’
The King James version reads more bluntly with: “For the love of money is the root of all evil”. However, even here it is not money but the lust for money.
1 Timothy 6:10

That’s very close, but the actual saying makes a world of difference. It’s, “...The *LOVE* of money is the root of all evil...”
I need money to provide for my family. There may be some passionate motivation there for sure, but my moral and ethical compass guides me to seek business deals that are good for both me and whoever I’m trading with. It’s not a good deal unless we both are happy with it.
Then there are folks who are in love with money and have no problem ruining someone else to get more of it. A business deal is no good to them unless they win it all and whoever they trade with loses and suffers something from the trade.
That’s only one of the many aspects of it, but that my understanding of the old saying.
