Spieth credits much of his success to his sister, Ellie, seven years his junior. She has a neurological disorder that puts her on the autism spectrum and she inspired her brother to set up the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation, which raises money for young people with special needs, military families, and junior golf. "Being Ellie's brother humbles me every day of my life," he says.

I agree golf is the only sport where most people still have a lot of class and are great role models.

It’s about the only thing I watch on TV. That and the Warriors - they’re having a phenominal season - with a bunch of classy guys. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are incredible.

Spieth's girlfriend, Annie Verrett, is his high-school sweetheart.

Here's a PDF of the current rule book. You can print it out to read it without all of the linking to "case law" rulings. It is a large file, and it includes basic golf etiquette for new players.

There is serious Tiger hatred on this board,

I don't hate him, I just no longer have any respect for him.

and your comment about the Swedish model fits right in. She is actually a very solid person. She just finished her degree at Rollins last year and was very down to earth and humble among class mates while here. She’s a good person and has survived an awfully humiliating situation with class. Whatever happened there, she doesn’t deserve that kind of scorn.

My comment was about Tiger and not Elin. I agree that she has class and handled the humiliation in the best possible way. My point was that it's now pretty obvious that Tiger was with her BECAUSE of her looks, not her character.

I still want to see Tiger return to the highest levels and win more majors. He has been one of the most talented ever at his craft, works incredibly hard and overall has been one of the strongest mentally and physically at the game. I, for one, am not going to beat the guy down.

Looking back, it seems pretty clear to me that Tiger's father really kept him in line, his game and personal life have been up and down ever since his father passed away.

If people had known from the beginning that Tiger was in all likelihood a sex addict they probably wouldn't have tried to make him into a role model. However, once a person ACCEPTS the label of role model they need to realize that they are going to be held to a certain standard and Tiger wasn't prepared to do that.

I rule set that uses a phrase “through the green” which in part means not including the green is inherently messed up.

I tried to read the rules of golf but couldn’t. I had to click on so may different links to read each rule, then click to go back and was sent to another website.

That's the beauty of it.

There are only 34 Rules of Golf, as the link suggests, but it's the intricacies of each rule that can drive one nuts. You're only the second person to comment on the link in, what, ten years of golf pings, so good on you.

That is certainly not true. Most of us were ardent Tiger fans before Elin took the 9-iron to-the-Escalade. Elin became a significant part of that story right then and there.

You should have seen the pro-Tiger crowd back then. Since his dad was a special forces vet, you could not even say one negative comment about Tiger without your patriotism being attacked. I kid you not.

Great post. I had all the respect in the world for Tiger until Thanksgiving weekend of 2009, Tiger brought this all on himself.

What I saw and heard Tiger do on the telecast of this past Sunday's final round of The Master disturbs me.

I'm watching him hit a shot which goes astray. He says out loud, "God f*ck!" when he realizes it is an errant shot. Several minutes later, the announcer, Jim Nantz says something to the effect, "I understand there may have been something said a few minutes ago that was inappropriate and we apologize for that." Like it was the CBS broadcast of the tournament that was at fault. He didn't identify Tiger Woods but I knew right away what he was referring to. They probably got many calls from viewers complaining of the profanity and religious slur.

I've played golf for 50 years and am no prude when it comes to playing partners cussing on the course. But it was never recorded or on live television. For Tiger to say something like that on national television, in earshot of young kids maybe or for young kids to hear on the TV, is highly inappropriate and very unprofessional for a top golfer.

I can tolerate Tiger's sexual misadventures. That's his own business. But to bring this kind of base language onto the course when it is being broadcast live around the world, is telling of Tiger's true character. You don't hear other players using that language. For someone who's propped himself up to be a role model and trying to make a comeback, I find his errant mouth to be embarrassing and disgusting.

Was Tiger like that before Earl passed away? Seems like he really lost his way after that.

I was actually referring to the site, not the actual rules. I appreciate what you said, but don’t feel like dodging ads and and having to decide which arrow to click on so as to avoid downloading a virus.

I agree. That behavior is a window on his character. Tiger is a lost soul who has a great many things to get in order before he can ever again be at the top of the Pro golf game.

He might win another tournament, but he will never win another Major. He isn't able to sufficiently focus or handle the pressure.

Don’t know the answer to that. I don’t remember it being so blatant. But he has lost his way lately.

Controlling one’s emotions is a huge factor in playing golf well. He seems to have lost that.

He certainly never did anything publicly while his father was alive.

I really think his father kept him in line and he's had nobody else who is willing/able to keep him straight. I have a hunch that this is the real reason Tiger fired Steve Williams (his longtime caddy fired in 2011), though we will never know.

When most football players succeed.. they buy drugs, beat up their spouse, get illegitimate kids all over the place, break the law, drink, create obnoxious scenes in public places, talk like potty mouth idiots

I don't think most of them do - I think whenever one does it's in the news.
