Retirement, lack of mortgage or other big interest loans, no complex investments, etc., all make one's taxes pretty simple to screw up. Most of the tax programs are pretty decent about catching some pretty complex returns.
They are LYING to you. My Wife is a UK Citizen, I got her a Green Card the LEGAL WAY, spent $10,000 and 1 1/2 years. Anyway when she got her NEW SS Number, she applied for credit at Kohls. it was denied and she got some real funny looks from the person at Kohls, So I ordered a copy of her Credit Report, turns out she was a middle aged Mexican living in Northern California, this happened at Tax Time so I did NOTHING ABOUT IT.
When we filed our FIRST Joint Return, the IRS Sent me a letter requesting Verification of her SS Number, so I sent it in, Homeland Security got involved immediately and within 30 days ALL REFERENCES to My Wife’s NEW SS Number were DELETED from EVERY CREDIT REPORTING AGENCY IN THE WORLD. Homeland Security Sent me a fresh copy of her CLEAN credit report
They can fix it if they wanted to, but they don’t. They only did it for me because they had to.
Have the Movie and the Book, well worth watching and reading
Just another reason to make sure you don’t have a refund coming but rather, owe at tax time. I don’t make interest-free loans, especially to Uncle Sugar.
Thanks, Bibman! I will watch the video as soon as I have 2 hours of down time. I will also read the book you suggest, but probably not until school is out.
They can fix it if they wanted to, but they dont. They only did it for me because they had to.
****
Why, eyeamok, did “they” have to fix it for you? Please, if you have advice you are willing to share, I welcome it. (You may send me a private message.)
Because when they asked me to verify her NEW SS # I sent them the Letter from Homeland Security granting her a Green Card and SS# and a copy of BOTH. They contacted Homeland Security and it was straightened out almost immediately.
They really had no choice, the number was just issued and I had Proof.
So, I hope that our proof is sufficient: certified copies of birth certificates, social security cards, and drivers’ licenses... We shall see...
Ain’t life a b*tch.
