Texas trade group heads to Cuba (et tu, Texas?)

DALLAS (AP) — A Texas delegation is arriving in Cuba with hopes of building a front-of-the-line position for renewed trade with the Caribbean nation long isolated by a U.S. embargo.

The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/1IX4MDi ) reports the delegation landing in Havana on Sunday is the first Texas has sent to Cuba since the U.S. and the communist island nation agreed to restore diplomatic relations.

Texas industries with potential to expand trade with Cuba include agriculture, airlines, oil, technology and tourism, said Cynthia Thomas, president of the Dallas-based consulting firm Tri Dimension Strategies and leader of the delegation.

"The last visits were about making introductions, getting to know one another, finding the right comfort zone," she said. "This time, there's a different environment all around. We understand the Cubans are more excited about doing business. We are, too."

Louisiana sent a group a few weeks back. There’s money to be made there. Not that I approve of it.

There are far too many marxists even here in Texas. Fortunately, Senator Ted Cruz will be setting them straight.

JFK lost Cuba. Had Nixon won in 1960, he would have booted commie Castro and probably made it the 51st state or maybe a colony. That was when Richard Nixon was still a fighter of tyranny, before he became a squish.
The reality is that Nixon did win in 1960 but the KKKennedy Klan stole the election.

BTW, the U.S never had colonies. Only business interests.

Re: “Dallas”

I remember J.R. Ewing got tossed into a Cuban jail for a couple hours when something went awry with his illegal arrangement to sell oil to Castro back in the 1980’s.

Nothing is illegal anymore.

Just premature.

If I had the money I’d be down there trying to buy a bunch of those classic cars.

Yawn. It is a 50 year failed policy that is finally ending. That Obama is the one ending it gets the blame on him but Americans are sitting on the sidelines in protest. It’s over. Long overdue in my opinion as well create more change by engaging Cuba in the next couple of years than 50 years of isolation accomplished.

Corrected: Yawn. It is a 50 year failed policy that is finally ending. That Obama is the one ending it gets the blame on him but Americans are NOT sitting on the sidelines in protest. It’s over. Long overdue in my opinion as we will create more change by engaging Cuba in the next couple of years than 50 years of isolation accomplished.

What money ?
Cubans have no money.

The Canuks have been down this road before.
We might ask some advice from folks who’ve tried trading with Cuba.

What a better way to show a communist nation that benefits of capitalism, in the hopes that it will change. Yes, they won’t change over night, but change they may.

Why shouldn’t they? The uniparty has decreed that we’re now allies with Eastasia, errrr cuba, so why should Texas capitalists put themselves at the back of the line?

We already trade a lot with China and China is many times worse than Cuba.

“Yawn. It is a 50 year failed policy that is finally ending.”

You’re right. This is long overdue.

The only problem is that Obama will eventually get the credit for recognizing past failures. We should have done this when we still had the White House.

It’s bidness. Cubans need awl. We got awl. Plenty of awl. We don’t care about their prisons or their lack of freedoms. We can sell them awl. That’s whut matters.

I’ve read they make their own parts when needed. The fact that they come from Cuba would make them more valuable. The question is would they trade them to you for a new Neon or other tiny new car.

I would not think that it takes much more than a lathe to make most parts. The old car were very simple compared to the crap we drive now. BTW, I bet the EPA would not let you bring these old cars here without very expensive modifications. Remember when DHS agents raided that lady’s house and seized her 1985 Land Rover Defender because of clean air act emissions standards?
