Snapshot of the Oldest Light in the Universe --"Reveals Clues to Its Origin"

Astrophysicists have developed a new method for calculating the effect of Rayleigh scattering on photons, potentially allowing researchers to better understand the formation of the Universe. The CMB is the oldest light in the universe, which originated when electrons combined with protons to form the first atoms. These primordial atoms were also the first to Rayleigh scatter light.

UBC theoretical cosmology graduate student Elham Alipour, UBC physicist Kris Sigurdson and Ohio State University astrophysicist Christopher Hirata probed the effect of Rayleigh scattering -- the process that makes the sky appear blue when the Sun's photons are scattered by molecules in the atmosphere -- on the cosmic microwave background (CMB). "Detecting the Rayleigh signal is challenging because the frequency range where Rayleigh scattering has the biggest effect is contaminated by 'noise' and foregrounds, such as galactic dust," lead author Elham Alipour said.

There goes science making another one of their grandiose statements about potential discoveries that hardly ever, or even ever ever pan out. You know, one of the promises made by NASA about Hubble, not that it hadn't exceeded all that it did accomplish, was the possibility of it getting a glimpse of the first light of creation. So, now we have an image of the earliest light.Hey,NASA, no prize for the earliest light only the light of the first moment of creation. Then there was God's particle eventually identified by the Haldron Collider that if identified would bring forth wonderful things emanating from God's Cosmic Treasure Chest of Eternal Love and Bliss. They themselves forget what it was that would occur to Earth via God's infinite Cornucopia of yet Revealed Wonders.

Far out man. Groovy Here is the light when it passed through my lava lamp and curtain beads and hit the wall. The black light may have had some impact. Suddenly I want to hear Eleanor Rigby

Shouldn’t that be “aren’t” out etc. Sites plural etc.etc.

Anyway now I’m Rayleigh confused...

Personally, I’m interested to learn however little I may of what was going on in the “mind” of God when he whimed up existence.

Thanks for posting.

I really don't understand why you continue to harass, insult me. If you didn't understand the article, my sarcasm, cynicism, well I'm sorry. I am a firm believer in science but sometimes I find the sense of itself woefully pompous and overwrought.

Like you. Please. I would appreciate it if you would find some other activity in which to relieve yourself, like banging your head against your cell wall until you stop feeling it.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Being a Grammar Nazi myself I can understand your point of view and find making such an egregious error inexplicable.

The article is lacking any attempt to explain what a “better understanding” of the early universe might possibly entail, and how the enhanced ability to detect Rayleigh scattering might possibly relate to that “better understanding”. There’s probably an interesting story here, but the article chose not to get into it. Probably because the author doesn’t understand it.
