Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) was once seen as a potential dark horse in the GOP presidential primary, but a New York Times report attributed to "three Republicans familiar with his decision, who spoke on condition of anonymity" suggested he plans to drop out of the race Monday evening. Walker has a news conference scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Times' Patrick Healy and Alexander Burns wrote that Walker "concluded he no longer has a path to the Republican presidential nomination and plans to drop out of the 2016 campaign." Walker's campaign did not respond to multiple requests for comment from Business Insider.

When can we substitute names I’d rather see in the phrase “dropping out of the presidential race” such as Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush, Lindsay Graham?

I had hoped he would do better than this because I admired his accomplishments, politically and administratively, as governor of Wisconsin. He was one of the few who took on left-wing sacred cows and won.

I will give him credit for knowing that he is not the candidate for the 2016 election, and bowing out. It’s time several others followed his example.

Thinking voters are tired of weather-vane politicians.

Walker was my top choice. I always felt he was the most accomplished and battle-tested of the entire group.

Sad to see, but there’ll be some high-five-ing here in FReerperland.

Actually, I was always thinking Walker would accomplish a lot more if he stayed where he is. He can keep pummeling the communists in his state and create a lot more damage to the bad guys that way.

As Secretary of Labor Walker could dismantle the Department. Black Lung, and Workman’s Compensation could be privatized into more effective programs.

Could he be bowing out in time to run for the Wisconsin Senate seat?

I’m not slapping any high-fives, I loved Walker. Trump’s my 1st choice, then Cruz, Walker.

No question. On paper, best qualified. All meat and no sizzle though, shame that it's come to that.

RE: As Secretary of Labor Walker could dismantle the Department.

I kinda doubt that. Bill Bennett wanted to dismantle the Dept. of Education when he was the secretary of the department under Ronald Reagan.

RESULT: We now have Common Core.

Yep. Voters favor noisy, bright and shiny objects now.

I hope you are right. He’s been through political hell from the elections and the recalls and all the nastiness the left threw at him in Wisconsin, and now to wash out nationally...I hope it has not left him burned out. I hope he can still be effective at home.

He’s young. Next time, he might come back better prepared if the time is right.
