It was reported as a rumor a couple weeks ago.
This anecdote should tell us a lot about Congress. Power goes right to their heads. (And its not from a sense of accomplishment its just that everyone is always kissing their butts to keep the status quo intact and throw some more money their way). McCarthy actually thought he could have an affair, “keep it a secret” from over 400 fellow critters and their 1000’s of staff, and somehow get the speaker’s chair to boot? It wouldn’t leak? His fellow critters would overlook not just the indiscretion but the arrogance? Shades of megalomania?
They are all swimming in the same water as McCarthy. Washington DC has become a dangerous cesspool and its power needs to be curtailed. Repeal the 16th and 17tj Amendments!
Someone pushed the button after McCarthy was rejected by the congressional Conservative Repubs he was toast and he had no leverage or air cover to continue...

From my years of experience in government at local and state but including contact with federal offices I say that personal shenanigans are rife among government personnel.
Who was the Congressman whose stripper girlfriend jumped into the Tidal Basin in the 1970’s? Does anyone remember this?
The scariest part is that Boehner and all of the Repub leadership KNEW about this little dalliance and still promoted this guy as speaker. They saw NO PROBLEM with the affair. They live in a bubble. They are completely out of touch with reality and the people they are supposed to represent. In a democracy they would be removed from office forthwith.
