Tom Woods and Michael Malice square off in an Oxford-style debate in New York City. Click "SHOW MORE" below for the results.
The resolution was: “Alexander Hamilton was a hero for the cause of liberty.†Malice argued in the affirmative; Woods argued in the negative. Woods was the winner.
When the audience was polled before the debate, the numbers were:
16% for the resolution; 41% against; 43% undecided.
After the debate, the numbers were:
26% for the resolution; 66% against; 8% undecided.
Hamilton ping.
They are both first rate debaters. Hamilton was a bit of a handicap though.
Malice has been on Tom Woods podcast and they’ve had discussions about Hamilton before.

Their back and forth on Twitter leading up to the Junto debate was hilarious.
I want to see an essay from Forrest McDonald in response to the points raised. I know he is retired, but we have to have it.
So with absence of Malice, win, does the outcome raise Aaron Burr from villain status to newly re-established patriot? Enquiring minds...yatta...yatta...yatta.
Woods alluded to John Taylor, who's a great example.
He perceived the problems with creating a national government more acutely than perhaps any of his contemporaries, but at the same time supported the institution of slavery.
FWIW, Nancy Isenberg wrote a phenomenal, very fair biography of Burr which is worth reading, called Fallen Founder .
