Another fundamental error: having liberal friends.

“”Another fundamental error: having liberal friends.””
How about relatives? I have steered away from discussing politics with a sister for over 60 years. This week I made an “innocent” remark (well, maybe more of a dig) about Jimmy Carter and his anti Israel stance - I didn’t think it would cause a firestorm..She hung up on me. I called back the next night to see if she was still mad at me and she said “I wasn’t mad; the conversation just wasn’t going anywhere” so she just hung up. Yeah - right! BECAUSE she didn’t want it to...
She doesn’t have a computer so she soaks up everything from the MSM. I was told that I get my information from the internet and “you can’t believe what you read on the internet” because that’s what someone told her. HUH???? I tried to tell her it’s like opening a book - look up anything you are interested in; people, places and things.
On the second call I told her I’d mailed her some articles I printed from the internet about Carter and his anti-Israel position that appeared in USA Today and other publications - merely posted on the internet and I added Israeli newspapers and she hung up on me AGAIN!!! I wanted her to know (big mistake) that we are reading exactly what she reads from the newspapers and magazines for the most part and the internet is not a bogie man....She wasn’t buying it!
The mention of Carter and Israel in the same sentence sure triggered a wild eruption. She loves Carter and has always digested everything about the Holocaust and supports Israel and I guess the contradiction is too much to handle.
Oh! Yeah - she detested Billy Graham because he visited Ronald Reagan in the WH. We haven’t lived near one another for 60 years and that was probably for the best. Occasional vacations and phone calls and that’s it.
I can’t deal with someone who just walks away from a conversation simply because they have their set ideas about a subject - not willing to listen or learn. My mistake, I guess!
