I was always interested in Hannibal, but he was covered in third year Latin ( it was all Cicero, all the time and written in the damned subjunctive case. spit! ), so I got hooked on him too.
Then there's Attila, and being of Hungarian descent...LOL, what need I add about that? :-)
Alexander is also another ancient general I find fascinating.
LOL...I love reading factual history too, but have certain favorite eras...WW I, not WW II....Ancient, Medieval, the 100 Years War, Napoleonic, Victorian and Edwardian.
Good look with your book !
The Medieval period fascinates me, the Victorian period less, but I am hooked on the Templars and find everything about them fascinating. The Templar chapel at Metz is intriguing and there is another Templar building in Sarlat, both in France.
You’re lucky.I never had Latin, although I’ve often wished I did. I suppose I’ve absorbed a great deal of it however, through French.
I suppose our Revolutionary period tops the list. There are so many incredible things that happened against all odds. It most certainly had to be God’s blessing that allowed us to become a country. World War I is the setting of one of my books which is an historical novel, while my book that takes place in World War II is non-fiction although I’m writing it in novel form without all the footnotes that drive me nuts when I try to read non-fiction in America. The French have that form of writing which makes historical fiction much easier reading.
I shall know whom to ask when I have a question about the Gallic Wars! :>)
