When fossil fuel-phobic Al Gore sold his âCurrent TVâ network to Al Jazeera, we noted the oil-based irony and mourned the passing of our favorite primetime lineup. After all, Current had been home to crackpots like Keith Olbermann and Dating Game contestants like Jennifer Granholm for the better part of ten years. That kind of crazy is hard to come by and we knew that we wouldnât see anything quite like Current again. MSNBC does itâs best to fill the void, but itâs just not the same.
Anyway, Al Jazeera America premiered a little over two years ago, and it was hailed by the left as a breath of fresh air. Finally, unbiased individuals would be doing serious news about serious international affairs. Folks like Hillary Clinton had long been suggesting that Al Jazeeraâs U.S. viewership was skyrocketing because unlike American media, they did âreal news.â
Here she is in 2011, arguing that Americans simply canât get enough Al Jazeera:
Well that’s an interesting bit of news.....must be the Arabs are doing more cost cutting in order to keep their oil prices low.....they’re taxing their people now as the government coffers have taken such a nose dive...The Leaders have to obtain revenue from other sources to maintain their huge families in the lifestyles they’re accustomed to.
Glad this islamic mooslim channel has been flushed down the toilet. And in it's place perhaps we can have reruns of Dark Shadows.
Al Jazeera bought Current TV in January of 2013 for close to $500 million...
But in court papers filed in Delaware Court of Chancery, lawyers for Messrs Gore and Hyatt alleged that Al Jazeeera attempted to “seize” $65 million in escrow funds relating to the sale. Approximately $85 million of the purchase price was placed in escrow according to the original sale agreement, and the escrow period ended on July 2, 2014, according to court papers....
