Trumps plan is to introduce competition throughout the healthcare industry.

How does that idea square with this: "The government's going to pay for it." - Donald Trump. That isn't a 1996 Trump quote, or even a 2006 Trump quote - that's a Trump quote from four months ago, September 29, 2015.

The only affordable and workable system is a two-tier healthcare solution.

Private healthcare and insurance for those that can afford the best and a public system for all the rest.

Good care for all but allow those that can afford it to be in a separate, Cadillac system.

There is NO WAY that this country can afford Cadillac care for all comers on the public’s dime.

Get government out of the damned way and allow insurance across state lines.

Implement malpractice reform!!! At least require very large judgements to require a trial before 12 jurors... all of which must vote yea to grant large malpractice judgments.
The civil court method makes it too easy to award outrageous sums.

Get rid of the illegal freeloaders sucking all the $$$ out of taxpayers pockets to care for them. Build the wall, deport, end birthright citizenship... this will dramatically lower healthcare costs! The US taxpayer has no moral responsibility to care for all the world’s indigent :-(

BTW: we have had an extremely goofy and expensive system of universal healthcare for a very long time here in the US. It started when it became mandatory that anyone who shows up at an emergency room must get treatment regardless of ability to pay or citizenship status. I’m not saying here that the poor should be turned away to die in the street... I’m saying come up with something better and keep the illegals out so they don’t get a chance to show up at an ER.

Maybe he means the Mexican government. He’s going to make them pay for our health care right after he makes them pay for building the border wall. Bwwahahaha.

If Cruz wins, we know what we will get. It will be up to the states to decide things not granted to the Feds. Some states will go socialist. Some states will go corporatist. Some capitalist. Most will have a mix of the three.

The states will compete and eventually go in the direction of what seems to work.

With most issues, much of the debate is between short term bandaids and pain killers to solve problems and long term nutrition and exercise, to use a metaphor.

"...I'd have to see those words come out of Trump's mouth..."

Well, here ya' go! (I'll just stand by while Trump's rabid supporters rationalize it away as if he didn't really say it)

Trump on 60 Minutes 9/27/2015 (yes, just a few months ago) interviewed by Scott Pelley:

Scott Pelley: How do you fix it?

Donald Trump: There's many different ways, by the way. Everybody's got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, "No, no, the lower 25 percent that can't afford private. But-"

Scott Pelley: Universal health care.

Donald Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I don't care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody's going to be taken care of much better than they're taken care of now.

Scott Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How?

Donald Trump: They're going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably-

Scott Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it?

Donald Trump: --the government's gonna pay for it. But we're going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it's going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.

So, to the rational and objective observer - Trump's clearly talking out of his rear-end and making this up as the interview progresses. He has no plan, other than a vague idea of a "quick thought" that sounds *plausible*. Vote for his NYC-Values if you wish, but it looks like he's just proposing a different flavor of govt healthcare. Vote Trump - get a different model of govt funded (that means our taxes) 0bamacare. Just great.

Personally I believe the elderly should be taken care of free of charge. And the mentally challenged.

Gee well I guess - having one family’s insurance premium jump from five hundred a month to eighteen hundred a month seems fair ... can’t afford the premium, can’t afford the fine.

Yep, that about covers it for us too.

Milton Friedman really had this figured out a long time ago.
His Negative Income Tax would provide an income to those who did not or could not work. That money could then be used for drugs, rent, food, beer, health insurance, or whatever.

This was the most efficient way to provide a safety net AND keep inefficient govt mandated monopolies from sprouting up which is the cause of the huge increase in health care costs.

The government's just going to pay for it? I'd have to see those words come out of Trump's mouth. I understand Trump wants to see people taken care of, but introducing better marketplace competition would do that without the government "just paying for it".

Stephanopoulos might have put the words in his mouth, but he didn't object in any way. It's around 4:30 of the clip.

"That doesn't mean single payer. That means we have to help people."

Lying is still a sin you know.
