Trump's cash crunch
The American Thinker ^ | February 4, 2016 | Frank Friday

Count me in with those who suspect that Donald Trump is no billionaire, but merely a poseur who may never have recovered from his many big-deal failures, as AT and others have already noted. Ted Cruz is finally bringing this idea up, but it's a testimony to just how opaque Trump has made his finances that only recently has anyone outside the financial press even discussed the matter.

Trump just released his fourth-quarter FEC report, and again, the political press doesn't know what to make of it - beyond the fact that he lent his campaign $12.8 million, which in part went to pay back Trump entities for travel and event services. Real billionaires don't campaign like that; your Linda McMahon and Ross Perot and Meg Whitman just write checks for tens of millions without batting an eye. Trump, however, seems to be hoping (or needing) to get that money back in the future.

Trump has relied on the roughly $6.5 million in unsolicited small donations he received the last 3 months to pay for his late-starting television buys. This means he was badly outspent in Iowa, tying with Bobbie Jindal for money spent on Iowa TV. Then Trump's lack of organization in Iowa proved fatal, running against the competent Rubio campaign and the tech-savvy Cruz operation. And Trump made a laughingstock of his campaign with Tea Party reject Katrina Pierson. In fact, there hardly is an actual campaign - just his children, domestic staff, and Twitter followers.

I remember the last campaign as being "my candidate is more conservative than yours," ad infinitum. And yes things got heated . . . but not like they are now, and this far out.

The one difference I (think) I see is the immediate personal attacks. These people don't even wait.

That being said, welcome to the growing coarseness of our internet culture.

Disclaimer: I'm pulling for Cruz and have been since he started his Senate career. That's Cruz' misfortune. The guys I like tend to fade in time.

On Trump, I don't see that it makes a difference if a guy is worth a quarter billion or a billion. I s'pect the life style won't change either way.

If he has some campaign manager type that can comprehend campaign finance enough to work through that maze, again, what difference does it make?

Then, when you can get $100,000,000 in free advertising from every network and news entity of every size, why spend your own money?

The only real criticism I can find here is that, with all that free advertising, he should have won 50 or 60 percent of the vote. That might be his only real weakness in this campaign, that advertising won't take him to the oval office.

Time will tell in that last part.

Otherwise, this is an editorial looking for a subject.

P.S. I don't think I have ever watched 30 seconds of any reality TV show. I was quite a professional wrestling fan in my youth. I wish Trump would sound more serious most of the time and less like a professional wrestler.

I am a Cruz/Trump supporter.

My real concern is that Trump’s campaign implodes and give Rubio a pathway to the nomination.

Especially concerned when Trump says ‘ Not worth it’.

"It is literally, a cult. There's no other way to describe it."

And I'm sure when the Donald asks for money, which he will, they will happily donate their hard earned cash to a Billionaire.

Imagine the conversation at breakfast with your wife, "You're sending $100 to a Billionaire?!"

Trump loves praising liberals and only says negative things about them when politically convenient.

You and your ilk are the reason FR sucks these days.

That's pretty rich coming from you, considering how much abuse you dish out against Trump supporters.

Well then put a sock in it. Don’t complain about flames when you are one of the folks pouring gas on the fire. I guess you haven’t bothered to notice that the owner of this site backs a fair fight between Cruz and Trump and wishes FReepers on both sides would quit flaming each other.

The vitriol here and really EVERYWHERE is truly amazing. But people who are rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic tend to need to be diverted from that grim reality. Intense vitriol will do...

Desperate is thread jacking with pic after worthless pic, like some maniac. At some point, do you think payback isn’t coming?

How many years has Trump been on the billionaire’s list before he ever began this campaign? Here is the 2007 list with Trump valued at 2.9 billion.
http://stats.areppim.com/listes/list_billionairesx07xwor.htm

And now all of a sudden he’s not a billionaire according to an opposing politician in a political campaign.

I get so sick of this lying. I listened to Chris Christie lie his butt off just a few minutes ago. “Gov Christie what does the field look like in NH right now?”

Ans: “We’re going all around the state getting our message out.”

That kind of dishonesty turns me off.
