Romney NEVER wants to run for president. He wouldn't mind being president, but he doesn't want to be bothered to run for the office. We saw that back in 2012. even after the nomination, Romney seemed disinterested in gathering votes or convincing people.

It is astounding that there is even the slightest chance that this might happen again.

Is immediately organizing an on-line pledge site by voters to vote Trump as a write-in candidate nationwide in the general election a viable option as a backup strategy?

I would support such a drive to create a web site immediately to see how many million signatures can be assembled.
