Off topic, but I am stunned and saddened by the ignorance of so many people about our history, and about World War II.

Too many people, especially young people, have no idea that the world we live in exists because we defeated true evil in World War II.

They do not know what you are talking about if you mention Anzio, Dunkirk, D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, Battle of Britain, Battle of Midway, Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, or how Jimmy Doolittle’s raid on Tokyo rallied the morale of our nation.

Some more liberal people parrot back liberal views that we committed war crimes, such as the bombing of Dresden and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, without putting those events in any context.

Some liberal types call various conservative or Republican politicians Hitler, again without any historic knowledge or context of how truly evil the real Hitler was.

Just a few things I wanted to mention, regarding World War II. I hope and pray we never see World War III. But these idiots who talk about the evils of racism and poverty and lecture us how black lives matter and sexism, have no clue about what true evils we have fought in our history.

Sadly pretty soon the only things they'll teach about WWII will be: 1. The Soviets defeated the Nazis all by themselves. 2. We were evil for Dresden and dropping the Atom Bomb. 3. How evil we were for interning the Japanese citizens.

On the topic of the OP and your post - anyone who thinks we were in the wrong (clueless Liberals, typically) for dropping the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki is simply clueless about what had happened at Okinawa. The fact of the matter is that to any rational person familiar with Okinawa, and familiar with what a conventional invasion of the core Japanese home islands would have meant, we saved Japanese lives, let alone American ones, by dropping the bombs.

But too few understand the history of Okinawa.

“Off topic, but I am stunned and saddened by the ignorance of so many people about our history, and about World War II.”

I remember staying up late to watch Victory At Sea. There wasn’t an equivalent for the war in Europe, which was a shame. But now with Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Saving Private Ryan kids should be able to learn a lot about WWII without much effort.

The difference is that most ‘Boomers grew up with fathers who had fought WWII. So we had a fascination with it. In my case I was an Army brat so I was surrounded by vets.
