The Backfire Effect: Why the attacks on Trump are not going to hurt him
The Coach's Team ^ | 10/14/16 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

Psychologists understand the strength of what they call The Backfire Effect. It explains the phenomena of people closing their ears to refutations of their positions. An article that discusses this subject acknowledges the difficulties and discomfort that comes with changing our beliefs. We respond by, “paying less attention to information that contradicts our present convictions and more to that which confirms them.” “Once something [like the intention to vote or vote for a candidate of the Party you have always voted against] is added to your collection of beliefs, you protect it from harm. You do this instinctively and unconsciously when confronted with attitude-inconsistent information.”

Another way of thinking about The Backfire Effect is called, Confirmation bias, “which is also called confirmatory bias, or myside bias [and] is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor and recall information in a way that confirms one's preexisting beliefs or hypotheses, while giving disproportionately less consideration to alternative possibilities.”

The fact is that both of these features of human personalities favor Donald Trump’s candidacy. In the first place, The Backfire Effect helps explain why Trump has likely lost no appreciable portion of his supporters in spite of the manufactured charges against him.

For many Trump supporters, joining his side has required a leap of faith. Some have had to jump a large distance. They have jumped from not voting ever; they have jumped to re-entering the voter pool after a long absence; they have jumped even to changing Parties to stand with Trump. These people love Trump and his ideas precisely because he is not THEM… the people they despise. They will not let anything bad about their hero sway them from supporting him, even when it is presented on a video. Verbal or confirmed attacks will fade...

My wife has changed her position. She was not a Trump supporter, based on her long standing vies of his attitude toward women. However, based on her own experiences with having been sexually abused, she said she views the current allegations against Trump as not credible. She now is actively considering voting for him.

What the Democrats, the Clinton led Democrats, and their associates in the MSM have done appears to be they dumped a potload of lies on the public, and anytime DJT responds that response is all that gets played on the television, over, and over again. The MSM are SELECTIVELY editing out the real issues DJT discusses in his rallies. Then HRC kicks back, lays low while the MSM plays the videos of DJT fuming over her, WJC, and the lies of the accusers.

IOW they have baited DJT. They are selectively editing to show the electorate how irresponsible DJT is to be anywhere near the nuclear buttons (as HRC says).

AGAIN we see the MSM doing the work on behalf of HRC against DJT.

Good news. I hope other women come to the same conclusion.

This explains a lot to me
1-Why I no longer watch FOX and go to FR republic all the time

2-Working the campaign office, folks come into register who have not voted in 20 years. Trump resonates with them as US and what we believe. Most are really fed up with Illegal Immigration and he gave them hope, and he is not THEM, the politicians, and most certainly not HER.

I no longer watch Faux News because they lie and have moved into hillarys corner. Been true for at least four years

It won’t work because

* “Fake but accurate”
* “It’s Not the Nature of the Evidence; It’s the Seriousness of the Charge”
* McCain “scandal”
* Hermann Cain “scandal”
* Newt Gingrich “scandals”
* Romney “scandals” (animal abuse, bullying, taxes)
* Candy Crowely
* “One Free Grope”
* “I didn’t have sex with that women”
* ...

Begala and Reid all but admitted they made up the scandals that CNN covered nonstop about Romney. CNN still has Begala on their election panels and will cover anything Reid says without thinking/checking. People know that this is what Democrats do at this point in elections and the media works with them. At this point we’d be idiots for believing in a scandal since the media has told us for at least 3 presidential elections that “fake” is ok - in one even explicitly saying “fake but accurate” is valid journalism.

The way I see it: the bulk of his supporters chose him for some reason: his policies, stand of the issues, a chance to shake things up. That hasn't changed because of the tape.

Others reluctantly got in line behind him because he won the nomination, even though he's not the kind of person they'd want in office. However, the tape doesn't affect these people because they are "shocked" but not "surprised" by it, which may sadden them a bit, on the one hand. On the other, his positions haven't changed and more importantly, HE'S NOT HILLARY. And no matter how many tapes they release, he'll still not be Hillary.

I think it would've been more damning if his Tax Returns showed that he'd donated a million dollars to Planned Parenthood than his not paying taxes on a billion dollar loss.

I guess this rings true. Once I decided that I would vote for Trump I knew instantly that all the King’s horses and all the King’s men couldn’t change my mind. I fully expected all the nasty coming from the Democrat party and I just laugh at it all. It has 0.000 effect on me. My vote is settled.

There’s an added element to the theory of the “He’s not THEM” making us for HIM thesis on Trump.

What he’s been put through especially in this last month of abuse by media, party members and insiders is making him more truly one of us every day.

I fixed that about 5 years ago. I watch no live TV whatsoever except for Bama games. I watch what I want to watch and from whom via the internet. If I want news I get it from Conservative internet sources, Drudge, FreeRepublic, etc. No talking heads, no liberalism forced down my throat, and the ability to search multiple sources to attempt to find out the truth. Every news source, commercial, basically every show on TV had some liberal slant to it and I got sick of it. I guess you could say I went Galt on TV and I think I’m better off for it.
