I would like to have some emergency food stored for whatever disaster is coming...blizzard, grid down, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations? I see numerous vendors and businesses. Thanks!
Wow...really? I don’t shop Costco. Do they still sell this? If so, I might go there.
Thank you sooo much. I suppose I’m only worried for a time period such as what you say...a few months. Eventually, we go serious Daniel Boone...hunt and so on...but that might take time. I do have some good stuff in my favor...semi rural, tons of wood for heat (we’re in Ohio); a creek, well(out of use, but my hubby, aka MacGuyver - could get it going. I agree with what everyone says on here. So much great advice and I wish I could write a thank you to everyone individually.
I have looked into freeze dried food....but the thing is...it degrades at above 70 degree's.....
I don't have a cellar..I don't keep my home at 70 year round...either.
Not sure if that helps....I've looked into WISE foods....and like what they have...but the temp. problem...keeps me from doing that.
I buy online and have it delivered to your door, small surcharge if your not a member
We live on some acreage with more wood falling to the ground than we can manage to turn into firewood. With this in mind, I bought a Stovetec "rocket stove" and a water pasteurizer from the same company.
We heat our house with a wood stove but I was afraid that we would go through too much wood if we became dependent on it for all our needs.
The "rocket stove" was developed to reduce the fuel needs in third world countries. It is lined with insulating material and configured to maximize the heat obtained from the fuel.
There should be Youtube videos describing the product and its uses and benefits.

or make your own.
Some people install the filter through both the bottom of the top bucket plus the lid for the bottom bucket which attaches the two of them together. (same size hole for both pcs)
Some people just install the filter in the bottom of the top bucket and drill an oversized hole in the lid to the bottom bucket and then set the top bucket on top of the bottom with the filter outlet tube passing through the oversized hole. Either way works.
Lots of youtube vids showing how to do this.
I use a Uni-Bit aka stepped bit for drilling the holes. Holes saws, spade bits works too. Even auger bits. Uni-bit is the smoothest but they're not cheap. I already had one.
