How did everyone get it so wrong?

Everybody was wrong. Again.

When Election Day dawned, almost all the pollsters, analytics nerds and political insiders in the country had Hillary Clinton waltzing into the White House.

Some of it was wishful thinking on the part of the media. Every morning when I turned on my puter I would see yahoo and msn.com saying that Hitlery moves into a commanding lead; etc. Or maybe as the “American Thinker” said, the drive by media, including some internet stations, was lying to us to depress the Trump vote; i.e., sap or morale. That is also a possibility.

Dear Politico,

A MAJOR killjoy for the Clinton campaign was Peter Schweizer's book Clinton Cash.

Once he detailed many of the financial shenanigans of the Clinton Foundation, no wonder why Hillary Clinton tried to hide the contents of that private email server--it contained a LOT of damaging information about the Foundation's activities. And it turned off a LOT of voters, too.

It’s simple - they assumed too much and they were stuck in their own circle of elite ideas. They have very little in common with most of us so how can they understand us?

There was a warning: The discrepancy between state by state polls and the overall polls the got all the attention.

Interestingly, it looks like it will be a long way from a record turnout, although we won’t have final numbers for a day or two.

In 2012, commentators went early with stories about Romney’s lower raw vote than McCain, leading to the ridiculous claim that conservatives ‘stayed home’. Romney ended up with a million more votes than McCain despite the appeal of Palin.

Trump looks to get not many more votes than Romney. Democrats seem to have stayed home.

The dems and their media minions have used polls as a form of psychological warfare for many years now, and more often than not, it works. The primary reason it failed this time is the “alternative or new media”, and the fact that Trump started calling out the media for its bias and dishonesty from the start, and the people responded by ignoring the media to a large extent. Proof of that can be seen in the plunging ratings of CNN, and the plummeting revenue loses of the NY Times. Several other papers also reported large scale subscription cancellations for having endorsed Clinton or followed an entirely negative line towards Trump.

Exactly.

Asking "how did they get it wrong" is like spending time trying to figure out the flaws in Bernie Madoff's investment strategy.

He had no strategy, because he was a crook. His only strategy was to hold off the day of reckoning as long as possible so he could fleece as many dummies as he could.

Yes, the work is only begun. Thinking Trump can fix all that ails us as a country is foolish. Step in the right direction is all.

Not me. I was expecting a landslide for Trump.

Because every poll I saw was based on “likely voters” which is defined as people who intended to vote and had actually voters in the last two general elections. That was clearly leaving out all those newly registered voters and the millions who said they would be voting for the first time in years. They had ample evidence in the Primaries that this left a big hole in their “likely voters” methodology, but they ignored it. I figured that was good for 3% added to Trump’s poll numbers.
