I am reminded of something I read years ago which was written by an Army Ranger back when gangs were threatening violence in some neighborhood.

I have been reading commentary about what would likely happen in the event of a civil war, and people have pointed out that the cities are particularly vulnerable. It does not take a great deal of interference from insurgents to cut power and water and even ingress and egress from the cities.

Should such a thing occur, the cities would quickly become death traps. They depend heavily on things outside of their area of influence to maintain their current lifestyles. A Few thousand men could bring them to their knees just by damaging their logistical support systems.
