I am very pleased to hear you could get off that and get a six figure job! It must've been hard.
Not that hard if you're willing to cheat the system, here in rural West Virginia I know of several people (unfortunately one is a nephew), who "gamed" the system with the help of "assembly line" law offices and unscrupulous doctors to get on SSI in the first place. Now they are not only collecting a easy $800 a month (plus foodstamps, free insurance etc.) but they are still working under the table for cash, and in the case of the nephew have a nice house, and vehicles (even a motorboat) which he keeps in his live-in girlfriends name to avoid SSI tracing them back to him.
No. This is back in 74.. when I got out of high school.. because I was physically handicapped. ..ampumtee..i got ssi.. but i went and applys for jobs... got a job as a cashier in a self service gas station...i worked miscellaneous jobs like that cashier fast food stuff like that got my real estate license tried that got my stock broker’s license tried that just sells I suck at sales.. then went to computer School 1979... got out and got a job as a bench Tech 6.50 hour starting out which was still low.. and just work my way up in the industry over the years to senior network engineer/ Network architect ... still no college degree just high school education and tech school
And yes many times early on even in the computer field I was told flat to my face I wouldn’t be hired because it was an amputee ..things like field service gigs which I finally got into... ...for one job doing software I was told they wouldn’t hire me because they thought I wouldn’t be able to type fast enough
It’s really easy to get off SSI. You just get a job and tell them you are working. They will cut you off.
