It’s a Catch-22. Government has no business promoting or denigrating religion, on the one hand - and on the other hand, school is inherently a cultural institution which cannot but either promote or denigrate religion.

The only true resolution being, that the government has no business in education. Education should be done by, or at least for, parents. With the caveat that you cannot raise your children to be crooks or cheats - and you cannot raise them to disregard the rights of others. Which would outlaw the teaching of Sharia.

The doctrine of “church and state” would also preclude having NASA promote the self-esteem of Muslims . . .

That’s the real issue. Government schools are socialism in practice, and inescapably atheistic.
