Michigan law requires a charter school to be closed if it is in the bottom 5 percent of state public schools in academic achievement three years in a row.

_____

But public schools do not have to be closed under the same rules?

This is math. SOME SCHOOLS have to be the bottom 5% in academic achievement (aside: how is this measured?). So it becomes a matter of musical chairs as to which schools those are if they cannot be at the bottom for 3 years in a row.

This is just redistributing the curve.

I always knew that charter schools were a scam to try to get the pressure off of vouchers - thanks for confirming it.

Charter schools are a scam but some are truly better places to park your kids than public. I hope my kid gets into one for K next year. Lesser evil and I can’t homeschool her right now.
