It is astonishing to consider that a few days later and Peter will deny even knowing The Lord! Without God's Spirit in us we are such fickle, faithless creatures.

Actually, according to St. Matthew's Gospel, the Transfiguration occured six days after Peter's Confession and subsequent denial.

As the Kontakion proclaims, it was to strengthen Peter's weak faith.

Read chapter seventeen more carefully.

Peter denied Jesus on the night Jesus was taken by the Sanhedrin guards, the night before the crucifixion. You arwe perhaps referring to the episode where Peter balks at Jesus going to Jerusalem to die for them and us?
