How ‘A Day Without a Woman’ Could Backfire
The Politico Magazine ^ | March 8, 2017 | Amanda Carpenter

Fifteen-thousand public school children are being kept out of their classrooms in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday. They’re not sick. Their schools are not being renovated. Nothing is wrong with the schools at all. Rather, a group of teachers decided they’d rather engage in political protest than do their jobs, shutting down the entire school system and leaving working moms and dads scrambling to make arrangements.

According to a statement released by Alexandria Public Schools, more than 300 staff members of the 2,352-strong workforce asked to skip work to observe “A Day Without A Women,” a request granted Monday afternoon. They, like the protest’s other participants around the country, are refusing to engage in any work to show commitment to “equity, justice, and human rights of women and all gender-oppressed people through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity.”

No one should kid themselves, however, about the radical action these protesters are embracing. Women aren’t simply “tak[ing] the day off,” as organizers have phrased it. It’s not an incident of “high staff absenteeism” as Alexandria’s superintendent described it, either. “A Day Without A Women,” planned by the same people who arranged the Women’s March earlier this year, is a one-day strike—a form of protest so unpopular it’s typically used only as a last resort. Adding further insult to the families inconvenienced by the demonstration, the strikers appear unable to answer one simple question: What, or whom, are they striking against?

Theoretically, Wednesday’s event is designed to highlight the economic power of women....

The day has been co-opted with so many different socialist, communist and radicalist groups, there’s not much left about ‘women’ at all. I was not surprised to see video of quite a few men milling about with the women.

Just imagine the nationwide sigh of relief as offices “endure” having their bossy, nasty, ugly women away from their desks.

I’m a woman, and I’d for sure be happy to see these harpies stay home.

Strikers forfeit their wages while they are on strike. Anyone who took off without prior notice should be docked their pay. All teachers in these districts should be penalized and the money given to parents to reimburse them for having to take vacation or scramble to find babysitters.

Thoroughly unacceptable. The school board should also be punished at all future meetings and election time.

How about “A Day without Attention Whores”? Nothing sexist about that, it goes both ways.

It would have been a memorable event if at the end of the march there was a mass suicide.

The important thing to remember is that these union teachers don’t give a rat’s ass about working moms and dads or their children. It’s all about their sorry azzes.

Got a $5 bill that says more than 90% of the women who took a day off to rant today did not grow up in a solid happy 2-parent home.

how many women today were inconvenienced due to this stupid walk out?
I saw one protest on TV , and it had a bunch of women holding signs from abortion, to my vagina, to refugees, etc. They don;t even know why they are there the idiots.

A day without bitching, moodiness, nonstop chatter, weepiness, parental superiority, stupid sports questions, fruity drinks, limp wristed hand shakes, whining about “equal pay”, rom-coms, waiting for her to get ready, packing moving boxes full of books, and I still have to take out the garbage...where do I sign?

I’m wondering about the legal ramifications of the teachers violating compulsory education laws, and a child’s 4ifht to a free, public education. Sounds like a good foundation for a lawsuit that could stop this kind of garbage in its tracks.

Democrats show their contempt for the working poor and middle class, again. Having to take an unpaid day off from work to watch your kids when you are living paycheck to paycheck is a hardship they don’t care about. It reminds me of how most bus service in Sacramento was shut down for the MLK holiday, forcing poor working people to pay for taxis to work. They don’t care.

You would have noticed it if you were in Prince George’s County, MD, and driving to work this morning - the least traffic we’ve seen since the Christmas vacation :-)

This is an excellent article. I would bet that most of the people who ‘took the day off’ didn’t go downtown to protest, and certainly shopped. I’m acquainted with some of these women, and it wasn’t even a ‘hissy fit’, as the author suggests - it was just a good excuse to take a day off, which many of them had probably not even heard about until the last minute, but took a ‘slacker’s’ advantage of as soon as they did.

One comment that I saw from a person on the Internet was that this could happen because of a snow day - and we haven’t really had any snow days this year. But responsible parents watch the weather, and usually have time to make contingency plans in the event - because they are responsible!

The real burden of this nonsense was that the P.G. County schools made the decision to close late in the day yesterday. They had no choice - the requests for personal leave came in at the last minute, and they were left with staffing and security issues! - and the parents were just left to scramble. A lot of those parents are responsible mothers, who had to go to work today - Yes, many are people who work in law enforcement, hospitals, and other essential services.

In my opinion, this was a really lousy thing for thoughtless females to do to responsible Women.

The whole thing is stupid. Do we have a mans day? how about getting rid of Black history month, hispanic month, women’s day homo day, month , week , and having a proud to be American day, and not just 4th July.

As my wife and daughter said. These women are just stupid.
