Escaping from Zip Ties - the back
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 4/21/2017 | J Hines

Imagine being zip tie behind your back and you had to escape, how would you do this?

The best way to overcome any type of restraints is to analyze how it works. Zip ties are tough nylon tape that contains small teeth running lengthwise down on one side, and a ratchet with small teeth embedded in a small open case.

The ratchet is molded to have downward pressure to be placed upon it as the tape is run through the open case, once the tape is align with the teeth of the ratchet, it will lock the zip tie.

If you apply more forward movement this will continue to tighten the zip tie, and backwards movement will lock it. The zip tie used in this video is a heavy duty type from Lowes and Home Depot, the rating is a 175 lb.

So how do you escape from a zip tie? You can either completely break the zip ties, shim them, use a friction saw or with a little forward thinking just be able to slip right out of them. Most simplest way is to break it, see the rear zip tie escape here.

LOL! Probably should be labelled NSFW. Not because it’s graphic in any way, but just to avoid having to explain why you were watching a guy spank himself.

What happens if the zip tie isn’t fully tightened and/or the locking mechanism isn’t centered between the wrists?

I’m thinking if it’s tied to the front no one is going to try this method.

Most simplest way

Is this the bestest grammar we can manage these days?

One would guess you wiggle the lock to the center and widen your wrists so it would be tight.

I need to pick up some for my EDC bag and a couple in my pocket. Got thing I have lost weight given my normal carry load.

Is that better than “least simplest way”?

There are zipties and there are zipties. By experience Home Depot, Lowes, and other retail ties are more or less defective in quality and easy to break in normal application. Those for communications, not so much. I’ll bet law enforcement ties are similarly strong. I’d classify this story as FAKE NEWS.

Yeah, newbie — next you're going to tell us Fox is spelled "Faux" and Trump is spelled "Drumpf."

I’ve used the good quality nylon industrial ones. These are not the ones you find at Lowe’s. And, the better ones have a stainless steel pawl on the ratchet. They do not come loose, they only bite harder the more they’re pulled.
