Charlie Brown Republicans
Article V Blog ^ | May 2nd 2017 | Rodney Dodsworth

I cast my first vote in 1972. I was four months into my eighteenth year, and pulled those levers with pride. Unlike republican Rome, America doesn’t have a formal coming of age ceremony in which teenagers leave adolescence, don a toga, and are recognized as men worthy of self-government. When I voted for Richard Nixon, I felt the rush of being a citizen, of one burdened yet privileged to partake in the civil society and having a say in local, state, and national affairs.

Since then, I never missed a congressional election . . . until 2016. While I voted for Donald Trump, I left the circles blank for congressman and senator. It was a tough decision, but yesterday’s budget deal confirmed my reasoning. Hugh Hewitt said the President could build the border wall; Rush said no, there was specific language that prevented construction. If press reports are accurate, the democrats got everything they wanted, including increased funding for Planned Parenthood, NEA, PBS . . . everything.

Avoiding a so-called shutdown means the Washington DC gravy train and plunder of our nation continues without pause. Obamacare is untouched, and congress remains untouched by Obamacare. Recall the wailing a few years ago from the GOP that congressmen and their staffers couldn’t bear the burden imposed on much of the rest of the nation.

For years we were told to just keep the congress for the GOP and once we delivered the Presidency to a Republican, THEN things would get done. Phht.

So, what to do? Continue to believe elections alone can restore free government? Isn’t it time to recognize the charade of elections? For whom does congress work? It certainly isn’t the people and the general welfare of the nation. The GOP isn’t interested in outing the treason and high crimes of Obama and his sycophants.

I am no longer a Charlie Brown Republican, one who believes a shred of the campaign promises from his GOP congressman and senators or their leadership.

It past time to face facts. Congressional elections are placebos for a gullible people. Free government is gone and shall not return until the people exercise their sovereignty and restore it.

What I find so interesting is that a government of Congressmen owned by the nation's wealthy people is pretty much exactly what was designed by our Founders. This idea that everyone who reaches the age of 18 and might or might not be a law-abiding U.S. citizen should have a say in electing their representatives in government is really nothing more than a modern delusion.

All the American Revolution did was replace the British government with a domestic "nobility" here in the new United States of America -- and these are the people who now run this country. Donald Trump himself has known that for his entire life, despite his charming populism on the campaign trail last year.

In 1824, for example (one of the earliest elections where I could find a popular vote total), there were about 350,000 votes cast -- in a nation of more than 10 million people.

Democrats have ruined the country beyond the possibility of repair. The thing that will come back to haunt us is LBJ and Nixon’s removal of silver and gold as a form of currency. It was replaced by fiat paper. Fiat currency is debt based currency and will inflate away individual wealth until there is nothing left. It is a matter of time, and the public has been so dummied down that it will never recognize it until it is too late.

This country was broken long before LBJ and Nixon. In fact, the degradation of our currency was likely an inevitable result of poor fiscal policy and unconstitutional government dating back many decades before that.

He must have been voting in a mock election at school. Unless he failed math, and doesn't realize he was actually in his 19th year.

You are right, and much of the blame for America’s demise lies with uninformed primary voters who really believe the rhetoric of PRyan and the McCs.

I can’t see how the October budget will be any different, with the same “lawmakers” setting the sgenda.

The last balanced budget, I believe, was pre-Civil War, wasn’t it? Coolidge got spending cuts, but there was still a deficit. That’s why he kept saying the country spent too much even back then. The American people truly do believe in excess spending insure continuation of their own particular program of interest.

True, and a common mistake. Like 1901-2000 being the 20th Century.

The republican congress sold America down the road. Ryan yet again has lied to Trump or Trump went along knowingly.

We are ruled by Tyrants, the time is now.

Newt/Clinton had a surplus in 2000-2001, but I think the #’s are disputed due to “creative accounting”. But they at least came close.

Charlie Brown Vichy Republicans

Republicans are the party of collaborators, we are La Résistance. We must hold back the Vichy regime until President Trump Can organize the opposition.

Trump needs to veto the spending bill and make the collaborators go on record with a vote to override. This is a vote against the Republican base that elected Trump; it is a declaration of war against the people they claim to represent.

When he vetoes the bill, Trump must declare that he will hold rallies in each and every district that overrides him, and ask the voters not to stay home in 2018 but to work with him to send a Congress that will represent THEM and work WITH Trump to advance OUR agenda.

George Mason was convinced that a 1:30,000 ratio would lead to an aristocratic House of Reps. Gosh, we are around a 1:720,000 ratio today.

You are right. Third party candidate Teddy Roosevelt’s Bull Moose party screwed America by taking away enough votes to let socialist Woodrow Wilson win. A few years afterward, Franklin D. Roosevelt led the path to ruin that Democrats have followed ever since. We are screwed, it’s just a matter of time.

This resolution is the 2017 budget — already half-spent, built by the department heads of the Obama administration. Yes, the new administration could have completely revised it, but....

The new department heads need to focus their efforts on the 2018 budget. This one was written in October, November, December by the Obama administration. It needs to be quickly revised and sent to the Congressional committees so that it can be passed by October 31...

Fedgov is a big ship.. FY2017 (which started Oct 31 2016) is going to be coasting on the Obama direction. FY2018 is when we begin to change the course.
