Can't figure out today's Kentucky Derby? This might help.
(Sorry about the quality.)
I found out today that (as I sadly expected) Groucho’s apocryphal cigar remark is just an urban myth.
I had a similar ‘Pavlovian’ response.
Irish War Cry will win———that’s all I need to know.
.
I just hope the horses will be safe. With so much rain I hope the track will be all right. That being said, I think they should have discontinued the Triple Crown experience when Secretariat won it. We’ll never see anything like that again in our lifetimes........;)
Me, I try to keep the breeding to a minimum and limited to humans.
What in particular are you having questions about?
Always Dreaming
“Breeders Guide.” I thought that was the book that all fathers gave their sons to read after having “the talk.”
Praise God, no one got hurt! Horse-racing is dangerous enough without a slick, muddy track.
I was rooting for the one-eyed horse.
: ) Thanks (never saw the skit before)
I won $50. I never get it right but I had a feeling.
What’s amazing is that inflation has been about 1600% since then, so each time Groucho was scammed for a dollar would be $17 now. And the traditional $2 bet is worth $34 now. Who could afford that?
Maybe you needed a breeder’s guide.
I was lucky enough to have been at Belmont when Secretariat won. He was the greatest I ever saw — and he seemed to know on some level that the crowd was there to see him.
He holds the stakes record for the Derby, Preakness, and Belmont. The all-time Triple Crown.
Interestingly, of the 12 Triple Crown winners, 3 have names beginning with S (Sir Barton, Secretariat, Seattle Slew), 3 have names beginning with A (Assault, Affirmed, American Pharoah), 2 with W (War Admiral and Whirlaway), and 2 with C (Count Fleet and Citation.) That leaves only Gallant Man and Omaha. And they average one in every 12+ yeas, but they tend to come in bunches with significant gaps.
He certainly didn’t say it on the air.
They run on muddy tracks like that frequently. Horse racing isn’t especially dangerous.
The very first horse I ever bet on paid me $34.
Last year, I was at Laurel for Maryland Million Day and won $83.60 on one race.
Thank you.
Thanks for the trivia. Very interesting. I think Secretariat was the greatest. Tell you the truth, I never heard of Sea Biscuit until we watched the movie. He was quite a horse himself.......;)
