I'm going to accompany my beloved wife to St. Paul to attend a science fiction/fantasy convention July 20-23. My first impression is that Diversicon will be overrun with "fluffy bunnies", and other libtards. Therefore, while she is attending panel discussions about "making your monsters relatable", and other such drivel, I would love to meet up with local freepers for beer and cigars.
I do not believe conservatives are allowed in/near the Twin Cities.
Good luck to you!
Bring a Koran
I just resigned from being an admin of a local convention, and I can confirm, most of the audience of such events tends towards liberalism. Our average attendee was 25-34, female, a single mother, against pretty much any religion, working two jobs, and rabidly in Bernie’s corner.
Got the wrong guy.
I was there six weeks ago...
I know my husband would love to meet up with you, IF you ever come to Vegas. We live a couple of hours away and go there for drs and groceries and visits with friends. My husband is a cigar aficianado (sp?)
I visited Minneapolis on business (for the first time) a few weeks ago.
The Muslim garb worn by folks riding the mass transit system really freaked me out—guess I live a sheltered life.
If you’ve visited the Twin Cities before, you won’t recognize the place today.
Minneapolis-St. Paul = Little Somalia
Minneapolis has a large Somali population.
If you are at the Convention Center dowtow, 3rd-worlders abound. Get out to the burbs and it isn’t too bad.
If you’re going to be on the St. Paul side anyway, you might try a visit a little farther (15 miles or so) east on the St. Croix River. Hastings, Prescott, Afton, Hudson. St. Croix Cigar is in Hudson, which is actually in Wisconsin. Good place.
The Highland Park area in the City of St. Paul is still nice, and just across the river from Mall of America.
St Paul suburbs resident here. The cities are infected with terminal liberalism, but the suburbs and out-state areas are becoming more conservative. Unfortunately, the state’s population is heavily weighted with “citiots”. The convention is at Bandana Square, a commercial-industrial area just north of downtown St Paul, tucked into an old middle class, blue collar neighborhood. It’s safe, but I wouldn’t go for a walk there at night. Summer is the best time of the year to visit. Assuming you get nice weather, the natural beauty and “green-ness” is stunning. If you like baseball, try a St Paul Saints game (part owned by Bill Murray - he shows up often). It’s the most fun baseball experience around. If not, I agree with the poster who said check out the St Croix River - from Stillwater to Afton. Or, drive to Minneapolis and check out the city’s lakes, interconntected with parks and trails.
Small town Minnesotan born, moved away many years ago. Took son on college visit to University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. At the conclusion of tour I asked son if he’d like to attend the university...NO was his one word answer. He’s a bit more polite than I, but I imagine a young man with the world ahead of him would rather go to a college where most of the students didn’t wear hajibs, burkas, look black as...., speak in unheard of dialects etc. For the 4 hours we were there I believed we were in some foreign country, and the looks we got....You think my above comments are “racist”, as a white man with his white son, I felt lucky to get out of Minn/St. Paul alive. NO GO ZONE
I would share a drink and cigar with you but I am not in Minn/SP. I suspect that there aren’t that many freepers there.
However the ones there need to show this man a good time.
“If youve visited the Twin Cities before, you wont recognize the place today.”....
I hate to admit it but I was born and raised in St. Paul and would NEVER, repeat NEVER care to move back there again. If you want liberalism and total diversification, go there, you will not be disappointed. About the only thing that has remained “status quo” are the locations of the State Capitol and the Cathedral. My recommendation is to STAY AWAY!
My office was just off West 7th at Otto Avenue.
Remember the string of petroleum tanks along W. 7th ?
One other story about Minneapolis. I was there over a year ago during the Minnesota Wild hockey season, and the company I was visiting had passes for us to the game. We went to a bar called Alary’s before the game.
You walk in and for $3 you get a voucher. The voucher covers your parking in the parking lot adjacent to the bar, it gives you access to the shuttle to and from the arena (it drops you off and picks you up at the entrance to the arena), and when you return to the bar, you turn in the voucher for a free beer.
In all my years of going to sporting and concert events, I have never had an experience that came close to this one.
They probably do this for other events as well. Maybe the Twins games?
