Currently, women are moving the needle and considered the fastest-growing segment in the shooting industry. In fact, in Michigan, there has been a 177% increase in concealed pistol license issued to women in the past four years. So, what are they packing?
According to USCCA they're packing:
Another thing that is interesting is the range of calibers. Popular ones are the .380 and 9mm. Most of the so called gun experts are saying the caliber for a woman should be a .380, because its small and easy to handle. However, think it depends on the gal, she can shoot whatever she wants to. IMHO a semi is never appropriate if it’s not at least given a light cleaning and a mag swap every 3 months or so.
Agreed...with the purse goo that many women have in their purse, if the gun is co-mingled, a lightweight .38 revolver would be best....
S+W 442
5 shot Revolver
Best Choice.
380s are snappy. This is not a good round for a woman. Too difficult to handle and not enough power.
Good list but as I go thru years of concealed carry experience, my opinion of carrying a semi-auto has changed. To me now, the concept of reliability out-shines the concept of round count. Revolvers are always ready, if the first trigger pull fails to go bang, the next pull almost certainly will. Furthermore, for the ladies and us older folks (especially with some arthritis in the hands) at least one of the semi-autos, the Kimber Solo, on this list is very difficult to manipulate the slide in the case of FTE, FTE, or dud round. I have a Solo and have stopped using it as my EDC for that reason. Any list should include at least one small revolver like a S&W 642 or Ruger LCR. Just my $.02 worth.
Oops, should read FTF, FTE
I agree about carrying revolvers. No jams and an ftf is not lethal, just pull the trigger again.
I have had too many jams at the range to trust a semi.
Very much agree. Women are not generally very enthused hearing that semi automatics fail to fire on occasion.
I love carrying my 15 oz. SW revolver, shoots 38sbd no safety.
I predict a long and detailed thread of various personal preferences and disparaging comments towards personal non-preferreds. It always happens in these threads.
But that is the beauty of a’murica, there is something for every one.......
Are you kidding me,my wife couldn’t find anything in her purse even if Indiana Jones were helping.
That’s what my wife carries. All metal, solid feel, and it can sit for 10 years and be ready to rock and roll.
My advice would be a special pocket or something, a thin dime or a bobby pin(if women even use those anymore) can jam any of them. Revolvers have some extra gaps that can get jammed.
Exactly perfect.
But those bigger weapons are amazingly heavy to lug around in a purse all day. Ask me how I know! :-)
A dedicated pocket is a must. How would you like to see someone trying to get out a dime or a credit card stuck between the frame and cylinder. Pennies and nickels like to get stuck in the trigger guard too.
Screw carrying a purse that big! Minimize, baby. How bout this instead?
