New people posts are looked at by Moderators, before being added to thread. Usually a few posts and it goes to immediate posts.
Probably some posts by newbies that were very inappropriate caused the change. Good posts will cause the delay to go away.

I signed up in late 2014, after lurking for over a decade. If I recall, there were a few days where I couldn’t do certain things - can’t remember if I could not post, or could not respond to a post. It only lasted a while. I don’t think that policy was in force from the beginning of FR, but was begun later.

I think it’s a good idea for a probationary period due to the fact that leftist trolls will quickly give up and not harass FR. The persistent ones will have to fake it for awhile, then when they can’t take it anymore and their true colors come out, they are easily be tracked down and zotted.
