IIRC the DOJ sued on the mosque builders behalf, essentially pummeling the locals into submission.

And Corey Stewart was what he always has been: a snake. He supported Trump because he read the political winds, but this is his gift to the Rural Crescent for their disobedience in not selecting his chosen candidate in the Republican primary for the PW county board. He wants the rural crescent destroyed, and he knows full well that this is just the camel’s nose under the tent.
He is bought, and paid for, and it is very discouraging that Trump has associated himself with him. This will not end with the mosque. The last place in Northern Virginia not yet covered in blacktop is about to be destroyed, thanks to Trump’s man in Virginia.
BTW, the real issue here isn’t that they are building a mosque. It’s that they are building a huge mosque that will require water and sewer run into an area of the county that is not zoned for it, and using roads that are barely passable for the few people that live there now.
But the board, Corey Stewart in particular, are afraid of a lawsuit, plus Corey has never been against development, even of mosques.
It was Lynch.
And not truly Trump’s man, remember he got fired for a stupid stunt he pulled to build his “cred” for the governor race.

I guess there’s nothing to be more afraid of than a lawsuit.

Corey Stewart is not doing this out of fear. He is doing this because Scott Jacobs lost the Brentsville special election, and the Republican primary. Scott Jacobs wanted to change the zoning in the rural crescent (effectively destroying it) and, as a real estate agent, he is doing so for obvious reasons. The winner (R-Jeanine Lawson), ran on a platform of protecting the existing zoning issues.
For that, the heavily Republican rural crescent had to be punished, and, ultimately, destroyed. The mosque was just Corey Stewart’s means to an end.
Maybe, but this was all public knowledge back before Trump began his run. And still, Trump appeared with him, and chose him as his guy in Virginia.
