The location of an NK missile shoot down would be based on our current capabilities. I agree that doing so well away from the mainland is preferable. But I’m at least hopeful that we could do a close in shoot down from a ship. But I can’t name the system that would do it.
How far out to sea can that be extended? I really don’t know. Maybe somebody will pipe in who knows our deployed capability and the intercept range of our shipborn systems.

Just dreaming out loud. There's probably a lot of stuff we could do, if we had worked hard on SDI for the last 30 years since Ronald first dreamed it.
I don't how much we've done, but I suspect not enough.

It looks like AEGIS is the shipborne anti-ICBM system. Very mature system.

and it would work even better if we could stop running into container ships.

No, it is ours. Nuke em NOW. MacArthur told Truman the damn truth just like Patton told FDR and IKE.

I wonder if South Korea would be willing to launch a lost-soldier offensive. I know. Suuure with the mush in charge now.

It wouldn’t be the worst way to put them out of their misery.
The problem is that the generals aren’t the ones who have to fall on their political swords.

AEGISIf you do go that route, you have to be prepared for N. Korea to retaliate, and you don't know what they would do, so you lose control of the situation.
It may be better just to bite the bullet and strike them first on your terms.

I pray the Lord would undermine him.

Tactically, I think the key capability that S. Korea is concerned with is our ability to take out the NK artillery before it can devastate Seoul.
I don't think we'd be this far into saber-rattling unless we and S. Korea thought we could do it.

Fear could have a way of stiffening Seoul’s spine. Let’s show that dear leader some “oppan” (older brother).

And I like the BBQ idea. Leaflet the artillery installations with “surrender and we’ll feed you!”

What I really wish we had pursued is Project Thor, aka. Rods from God. We would have the equivalent of a nuclear first strike without the radiation and having to cross the nuke threshold.
