Ammunition demand has continued to drop. Vista Outdoor provides a large proportion of the North American ammunition market with its CCI and Federal brands. Most of the production is at plants in Lewiston, Idaho and in Anoka, Minnesota.
The Anoka facility laid off 130 employees in March. Lewiston laid off 15 salaried employees in February, and dropped 10 more positions through attrition. Now 8 more salaried employees have been laid off. From 4-traders.com:
June 27--Eight more Lewiston Vista Outdoor positions have been cut, casualties of a decline in ammunition purchases following November's presidential election. The company will be finishing a $70 million rimfire manufacturing plant in Lewiston, but has stopped a $29 million additional phase for now.
The salaried employees were in operations support and customer service, said Amanda Covington, a spokeswoman for the company, in an email Monday.
Odd. I thought the demand would go up. Should we stock up for when the SHTF?
I’ve yet to hear a good explanation for why Rim-fire ammo has been so scarce.
Demand outstripped supply.
Manufacturers were reluctant to buy expensive new plant, thinking the bubble would burst.
Demand has stayed high, manufacturers increased capacity by about 20%.
That new rimfire plant can’t come online soon enough. The entire industry needs twice the volume and at least 30% lower prices.
Recall that not only was there a run on it, but a huge increase in conversions and kits to allow heavier caliber weapons to fire .22 for plinking and practice. People that might put one or two hundred rounds every few months through an AR or .45 ACP due to cost can do the same every weekend with .22 uppers and slides.
Went to my local Walmart the other day and unexpectedly found .22s @ .05 cents/round......NO LIMIT! HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY
If they’d lighten up on the
Ten round Mag limit!!!

I’m planning a trip there tomorrow. I’ll let you know what’s available in Wisconsin. We were having an ammo drought for WAY too long!
Today is always a good day to buy ammo.
Hoarding.
“Centerfire ammunition is now plentiful in stores, but rimfire ammunition is only beginning to catch up with demand.”
Looks more like ‘old times’ here in Flori-DUH?...
22lr and even 22 wmr stuff on ammoseeek is back to almost pre- OBUMMER prices...

That's liberal logic.
This is amazing, and I cannot think of a more in-your-face repudiation of the former CinC that so many folks loaded up.
I for one would love to help keep those folks in their jobs :-) ...nothing more enjoyable that burning through a box at the range every few weekends!
Prices dropping but not nearly enough.
I use the 9mm measure. When price per round goes below 10 cents then I might begin shooting again. Five cents and look out IPSC contenders.
