Not just for women but preferred by women
Want to know which handguns women choose when they're looking for a self-defense weapon? According to NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation) these are the five of the most popular handguns purchased by women for their size, weight, fit and ease of use.
Whether for concealed carry or the bedside table drawer, all of these are great, reliable options that you can count on in case of emergency.
Would you go with one of these picks? What else would you add? See the rest of the handguns for women here.
1911 pattern piece for consistency with the rest of our, um, arsenal, and the wife can rack the slide easily (something she cannot do with a 9, and certainly not the .45s).
My wifey a girly girl recently bought a Ruger LCR in .22 WMR
A Glock when I fly, a .32 Tomcat or a .40S&W M&P Shield at home.
I would not recommend the Kahr. The slide is a real bear to work when it’s brand new. They recommend a 200 round break in, but I found it takes a lot more than that.
My wife carries a Beretta PX4 in .45.The slide doesn’t require too much effort to rack and she shoots well with it.
Off topic but as poster earlier wrote, my FR page is only loading about 5 topics and the last one stops in mid sentence.
Yep, something similar for me as well.

Para Ordnance makes a .45 and 9MM carry model, based on the 1911, but with a ‘light double action’ trigger. They aren’t cheap, but it groups well, has light recoil, and a smooth trigger pull.
Carry/Have this,
Taurus Judge® Revolver | 45 Colt/410 ga 3” 5-RDS Matte Stainless

My winter carry gun is a Para-Ordnance P-12 .45
Fantastic weapon.....
I recommend a .38 lightweight revolver for most who do not practice and aren’t as proficient.....
Always works, no safety or racking slide in high stress situations...
Very effective round....
These threads are fun because EVERYBODY has specific ideas on EDC guns for themselves, and especially for their wives/daughters/girlfriends. I have always carried either a 3” 1911, a Kimber Solo, or a M&P340, depending the temperature range here in NE Florida (i.e. more clothes, bigger gun, and vice versa.). I have now convinced myself that the revolver is the way to go for me. I have developed arthritis in my hands and the semi-autos are hard for me to cycle if a FTF or FTE occurs. With a revolver if it doesn’t go bang on the first trigger pull, it certainly will on the next pull. A semi-auto FTF or FTE could literally be the end of me, so I go full time with the M&P340 now. I recently bought a S&W Bodyguard .38+P for Mrs Afterguard for the same reason.
Beretta 21A Bobcat.
Small, and tilt barrel means she does not have to operate the slide to chamber a round
Thanks for the post! My lovely wife is looking for a reliable lightweight revolver.
FWIW, one of the guns listed in the article is the LC9. I had one for a while and got rid of it because it had the worst trigger I’ve ever used. Slim and light but I could never recommend one.
Ya. FR has issues. Sometimes it will only load the header.
I have the basic Beretta PX4, but this version is what I’d recommend.
Lower profile controls than mine, DA/SA(my preferred design for increased margin of error), 9mm 15 round magazine(because I’ve arrived at the opinion in the past several years that a single stack semi-automatic or a revolver may not be enough because it seems like bad guys are more likely to act in groups than they used to.)
