My favorite version is:

Heaven is an American salary, an English house, a Chinese cook, and a Japanese wife.

Hell is a Chinese salary, a Japanese house, an English cook, and an American wife. :)

I wouldn’t want an English wife either.

Do the Brits not have access to recipes?

An English breakfast, toad in the hole, blood pudding, trifle, boiled meat, roasted fowl, etc. How tough can it be?

The way I heard it was:
Heaven:
Living in London on an American salary with a Chinese wife and a French chef.
Hell:
Living in Paris on a Chinese salary with an American wife and an English cook.
